Absolutely charming, and the best kickboxing fights ever!
I wasn't sure I'd care for this film, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance! The characters and story are adorable, and though I knew Jackie Chan was trained in kickboxing, I'd never seen him do it before. The fight scenes in this film are some of his best: I've never seen better kickboxing fights in my life, and his opponent in these matches is one of the very, very few people who can keep up with Jackie's explosive speed. This means that Jackie didn't have to slow himself down for these fights, and as a result, they're just... incredible. Just... words fail. Wow. Just WOW.

Chan Vs. Allen - Gorgeous
This is far from Jackie Chan's best film, however it still contains some great scenes and I would definately recommend to any true Chan fan. First off I have to applaud Columbia Tristar for including the Cantinese language option on the DVD. I have been waiting for someone to do this for a long time. Much of Jackie's redubbed Hong Kong movies have lost something in the translation to English. I would recommend that anyone who wants to view movies like First Strike, Operation Condor and Police Story 1 and 2 as they were originally intended should track down the Cantonese versions. Anyway, one of the best things about Gorgeous is the opportunity to see Jackie Chan in a new and different role as a business man. I applaud his attempts to continually try different roles. He displays an often unseen confidence in this role. I really love his English language films like Who Am I?, Mr Nice Guy and Shanghai Noon. However we all have to admit that his English is none to good and this will definately hinder him at times. The action scenes in Gorgeous are top notch and Brad Allen, his nemesis in the movies two outsatnding fights, is absolutely incredible. Jackie Chan may be approaching 50, however he still proves that he can still choreograph the best fights in the business. The movie is somewhat bogged down by 2-3 overly silly scenes, however this is a part of Jackie Chan's persona. Not his best film, however it is one that no Chan fan should miss.

Jackie Chan does romantic comedy
4 of 5 stars for this romantic comedy movie. I am a huge fan of Jackie Chan. This movie is a bit different than his other movies; the focuses on the romantic and comedy elements and downplays the trade-mark Jackie Chan fights.A village girl named "Bu" meets and falls in love with business executive CN Chan (Jackie Chan). The movie is about how Bu tries to capture CN's heart. Qi Shu played Bu and was wonderfully cute; how could you not fall in love with her! The dinner scene with Bu wearing a long blue dress was fun! Well, throw-in a mob-boss, some dumb henchmen and a few Jackie Chan fights and you have the movie. Specially entertaining was a fight scene with 4 silver aluminum baseball bats.Filmed in Hong Kong and English dubbed audio. The voices were pretty good; though knowing Jackie's voice so well, it is hard to hear some other voice from his mouth. The dubbing isn't such a problem.A truly fun, funny and entertaining movie.

"Don't just stand there wearing white!"
GORGEOUS is a change of pace for Jackie Chan. Oh, this one still boasts your basically incredible martial arts sequences, but, really, this film marks Jackie Chan's foray into romantic comedy territory. And, despite that Jackie doesn't seem to have the acting range to pull off this type of leading man role, the other elements in this picture lift it into something I find quite entertaining. The plot revolves around a young starry-eyed village girl named Bu (Qi Shu), who finds a message in a bottle and flies to Hong Kong to meet the message's author. In Hong Kong Bu meets and falls for C.N. (Jackie Chan), a wealthy, lonely playboy businessman heading up a trash recycling empire. But as Bu and C.N. become close, their fledgling romance is interrupted by C.N.'s lifelong rival, who persists in sending his clumsy thugs after C.N.Whether you like GORGEOUS or not will hinge on how you feel about the lead actress, Qi Shu, as this film is as much a showcase for her as it is for Jackie Chan. My feeling on this is that Qi Shu wafts in like a breath of fresh air and is instantly captivating. There's an infectious exuberance about her, and a certain naturalness. I could watch her expressive face all day long. She definitely sets the mood of this film, which is mostly bright and whimsical and sweet. Wonderful actor Tony Leung also deserves his propers, as his gay fashion shutterbug provides a good share of the funnies (I couldn't help cracking up at his elevator scene with Jackie). In fact, some of the best moments happen when Leung and Qi Shu are playfully sharing the screen.Jackie Chan is never better than when he's performing his breathtaking stunts and acrobatics. Let's face it, dude's strength isn't in delivering lines. I'll say this, though, I've never seen Jackie so wistful and low-key than in this role, and he manages to tone down his usual mugging. Jackie has stated publicly that the character of C.N. is like him in many ways (both are clean-living, keep fit, like to wear white outfits, are environmentally aware). Sadly, though, this doesn't translate into an adept acting performance. As a romantic leading man, yeah, he's pretty wooden. Perhaps aware of this lack, Jackie makes sure that Qi Shu and Leung get plenty of camera time.Thankfully for Jackie, he does engage in several lighthearted scuffles (although not as many as we'd like). Jackie, as ever, is amazingly inventive and agile with his choreography. This time, he uses baseball bats, a boat, and a motorbike as supporting characters in his fight scenes. His opponent in two of these brawls is the tiny dynamo Bradley James Allan, who in real life happens to be the first ever non-Asian member of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team. In GORGEOUS, he plays martial artist "Allan," hired by C.N.'s rival to beat up C.N. and partly because his shorter stature would make C.N.'s defeat even more ignominious. As several persons have remarked, it's refreshing that Jackie and Allan's combat is marked with mutual respect and a spirit of competition. It reminds me a little of Return of the Dragon , of Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris's classic colosseum fight to the death. The only downside to Jackie and Allan's two otherwise excellent fights is that the camera was sped up in spots.Again, GORGEOUS isn't your typical Jackie Chan martial-arts action-comedy. It's more sedate in its pacing and, would you believe, more character driven. Some fans won't dig it, won't like the more contemplative Jackie Chan on screen and that it's not more action-oriented. But I like GORGEOUS a lot. Jackie Chan tried to change up his style, and, even if he wasn't completely successful, I'm still glad he had the guts to experiment and branch out. I say, check out this flick. You might even develop a craving for Chinese pot rice.

A fun movie...
This was a good movie, and it is always enjoyable to see Jackie Chan branch out a bit and show his acting ability (though, this was not the best of his movies for that.) I have to say that, even though I have my own copy of this movie and have watched it and enjoyed it several times, I am never able to suspend my disbelief. I am always bothered by the disparity in the ages of Jackie Chan and his leading teenager! I will be glad when Jackie Chan stops playing 20-somethings and moves entirely into his true age group with roles that allow him to show off his acting range (which is actually quite impressive.) The man is a good actor, and he can sing! As he matures and his impressive martial arts and acrobatic abilities inevitably change, I would like to see him develop and share his other abilities.

Romantic Kung Fu
One of Jackie Chan's gentler movies, more of a comedy - romance, but it still has his usual funny fights and one of the better fight scenes in any Jackie Chan movie.

Childhood memories
So I have always loved Jackie chan and enjoyed his movies, I don't own a collection of them but this definitely has to be one of the favourite movies from my childhood. It's a light romance movie which includes some action scenes. The movie title is called Goregous (very obviously) because Bu, the girl he falls in love with, is gorgeous. The movies suitable for any ages, and will generally just make you laugh.I don't want to give anything away but if you enjoy Jackie Chan, a bit of romance, and laughter then you should buy it.

This is one of my favourite Jackie Chan movies
This is one of my favourite Jackie Chan movies, plus one of my favourite Shu Qi movies, as besides being a sweet love story spiced with non-belligerent action, it's very well composed from every aspect, and the creative dialogue adds a special sparkle. Tony Leung, who's an extremely versatile actor, is wonderfully cast as the gay Albert; and Australian Brad Allen as Alan - 'cryptic' character naming there - the honourable boxing opponent, makes a refreshing change to the shallow and stereotypical bad guy. Skill-wise he puts the 'art' in to martial art. Jackie Chan pretty much as usual plays Jackie Chan - always perfect casting for a good for a Jackie Chan movie! - while Shu Qi once again shows that she's far more adaptable as a character actor than many critics give her credit for. I predict that as she gets older she'll shine all the more. 5 Stars awarded as it's joyful and flawlessly constructed easy viewing. It achieves the end it was designed to.

Like it or not?
I love Jackie Chan and Shu Qi and to bring them together on one film was a must for me to buy. The story line was "cute" and amusing. Shu Qi played her chameleon role very well as the little village girl and then suddenly transformed into the most beautiful woman anyone would be proud to take to dinner!! I was not impressed with the fight scenes but enjoyed the wit Jackie always puts into these. In general, the film was funny, and well put together. Typical man meets girl and ends happy ever after. Some may find the story line a little "tame" but if you understand Asian culture then you can accept the simplicity of the story. If you liked Pretty Woman, there seems to be a similar trait here but in a very nice way. If you love Jackie and Shu Qi then it is a must to buy.

Family-friendly
Cute, feel-good film with Jackie Chan starring. I've searched high and low for this as my partner was an extra in it. It's a family-friendly over the top caper with the usual amazing fight scenes that only Jackie can do.
