My First Fairy Tales Board book – September 3, 2009

I love the author Tomie dePaola. I've purchased his "Strega Nona" series for my granddaughters. His books have great pictures and are very easy to read. I purchased this book for a baby shower, that my sister-in-law had for her daughter-in-law and her soon to arrive granddaughter. Instead of attaching a card to the gifts they asked for a child's book. I thought this was a great idea to because..."what do you do with all the cards...after a while they are either tucked away in a memory box or thrown away...This way the books can be treasured, used and read or even passed on in years to come.

We are big fans of Strega Nona so I wanted to get my little man started with some of Tomie dePaola books. This book is a great introduction to his work. It includes stories, such as The Shoemaker and the Elves and The Princess and the Pea. The stories are a bit long for my one year old but he will grow into them with time. I would recommend this book since it is made of sturdy cardboard for little readers and has a nice selection of stories with the classic dePaola illustrations.

This was the book portion of a gift for our great niece. I gave it to her with a fairy costume (I always include a book with every gift). Tomie dePaola's books have been favorites of mine for many years now. When I was the librarian in an elementary school, I also saw how popular they were with the students. This particular book was perfect for a two-and-a-half-year-old, particularly because of the board book format.

This is an excellent book for little ones. They're wonderfully illustrated and written. I gave it as a baby shower gift and she loved it!

I love dePaola's children's books, especially the artwork. This includes many classic fairy tales that kids don't hear anymore. The grandkids love it.

Adorable book for children. The classics of fairy tales told in simple form, with cute pictures.

Great illustrations. Very text heavy, despite being a board book meant for younger children. My toddler doesn't have the attention span to have the stories read to her. But I know she will like it when she is older.
