Great for sealing MDF
I bought this to seal a few MDF cabinet doors. It worked beautifully. It soaks into the MDF and then creates a buttery smooth surface when you sand it smooth with a 320 grit sandpaper (as the can recommends). It prevents the paint from soaking into the MDF to avoid any swelling. It took three coats of finishing paint to create a finished surface but they are smooth and glossy and gorgeous, thanks to this product!

UNBELIEVABLE!
I am in the middle of doing an electric guitar, {Les Paul}, refinish. The top of the guitar is a beautiful, quilt, {highly figured}, maple. I bought this product 100% on the reputation of the "MinWax" name. I am just a bit above a total amateur. This product is so good that I thought I had made a mistake on the first coat application of this product. I sat and worried after the first coat until I simply resolved to resand the top and try it again. This product leveled the first coat to a perfect satin finish, {exactly what I wanted}! It was totally unnecessary to do anything more than a light superfine wet sand of the top before applying the second coat. I DO NOT believe in "magic". However, I am now a believer in miracles! For ANY amount of money it would be difficult to find a better product! I give it TEN STARS!

The desktop I was doing looks great.
This worked well but as a warning to others, you have to use lacquer on top of this. I bought it as a sanding sealer (not really thinking about the implications of the word "lacquer" in the description, and discovered after I had applied it, that you cannot put polyurethane varnishes on top of it. You have to use lacquer afterwards. I really wanted the polyurethane for the water resistance but never mind. The desktop I was doing looks great.

Works for sealing copper like a BOSS
Used it to seal a patina on copper. Works great- seems really durable. I've had this one blank patina-ed and sealed for about 3 months now, and haven't seen a bit of chipping or flaking

My Dad was a painting contractor for 42 years and we used lacquer sanding sealer for ever. The fumes are rough so be aware they can get to you if you don't have plenty of ventilation. I'm sure there is a water based sealer that works just as well but haven't explored what's out there yet.
