Lightweight, Pocketable & Quick Results
A modestly skilled user can quickly and conveniently produce a hair shaving edge with this sharpener. This fine/extra fine model works well for touch-ups. But if the edge is chipped or really dull, a coarser grit diamond will be needed to restore the bevel.Proviso:--- For the ultimate edge, guided sharpeners are superior. As good as it is, this freehand sharpener does not normally produce results like those from guided systems like Wicked Edge, KME, Edge Pro, etc.Adding to the convenience, I've found this little sharpener works best dry ... without water or oil. It takes a long time before it needs cleaning but holding it under a tap using a little dishwasher detergent is all that's required.I wish DMT would make this sharpener in a rust-proof version. Then it would be close to perfect.

Excellent product
The '"hard coat" version is significantly better quality than the regular version. I have used this one quite a bit and it gives a better finish to the blade.

Great DMT sharpener with a cheap
Great DMT sharpener with a cheap, brittle plastic folding handle. The Hardcoat finish and extra fine side are great, though.

Great for sharpening kitchen knives.
I use these for a variety of shop filing, but most of all for sharpening kitchen knives. When invited to dinner I put these in my pocket and sharpen a whole kitchen block full of knives in ten minutes. I have a first rate electric sharpener, but this file is even faster, and fits in my pocket.

Great for a quick touch up.
