This cargo box is more spacious than it looks. I mounted it on a 2023 Tesla Model Y. Cons (If any) There weren't many cons for me. It is light and easy enough to install, but I had to drill extra holes to make it fit perfectly on my bars. I searched and found a good installation video on Youtube. It did not quite fit in my garage while i mounted on the vehicle since it's was a hair too high. The rear opening and key mechanism are a bit awkward and janky, but the advantage of the rear opening is that you can access it from both sides of the vehicle equally and balance the weight fairly easily. The hinges could stand to inspire a bit more confidence if you ask me. They're made with plastic components but held up fine. The key wants to stay in when you open it so turn the key, open very slightly and remove the key before opening fully to get the key out before raising it. Benefits I really appreciated using this carbo box. I took it on ~530 mile trek round-trip. It swallowed 3 collapsible chairs , 1 collapsible loveseat, 1 golf bag with full set of clubs, two 7'X7' beach cabanas in bags, one 4 foot ladder, two beach mats and a beach tent with room to go! Everything except the ladder were inside their travel bags so nothing moved around and all fit easily. I took the ladder since it was my first trip and I had the room, but it turns out I didn't need it on that vehicle since I was able to grab everything easily enough. (The Model Y isn't that tall, but you would might need a latter or stool on a van or larger SUV) It is aerodynamic and is superior to soft cargo bag. The range hit on the EV was around 15% min to 18% max (closer to 15% averaged out). It is waterproof and we went through slight rain with no issues. Overall it worked well! Bug cleanup for the front of the box after the trip was quick and easy using a few disinfecting wipes on the ABS plastic. The size of box for the price ($339.95 on sale) was pretty good value compared to other some alternatives. Installation and removal after the trip were pretty easy.

You know, the one who isn’t playing trunk Tetris while everyone else is waiting? Yeah. That’s me now. First off—this thing is BIG. Like, “why did I ever struggle fitting luggage before?” big. We loaded it up with suitcases, random camping gear, and the usual “just in case” items, and it still had room to spare. If you’re the over-packer of the group (no judgment), this is your new best friend. No fabric, no zippers to worry about.. The rear-opening design is a low-key genius move. No more awkward traffic-side balancing acts trying not to get clipped by a car while grabbing your stuff. You load and unload from the safer side, and honestly, once you experience that, there’s no going back. Installation? Way easier than expected. I was mentally preparing for a full DIY meltdown, but it mounted up without drama. It’s sturdy, stays put, and doesn’t sound like a haunted suitcase flapping around on the highway. And let’s talk durability—it handled highway speeds, wind, and a questionable rainstorm like a champ. Everything inside stayed dry and secure. No soggy clothes, no shifting chaos. Just… calm, organized travel energy. A couple things to keep it real: It’s not feather-light, so you might want a second set of hands to get it on your roof. It’s not the fanciest-looking box out there—but it’s practical, and honestly, it grows on you. Bottom line: if you need extra space and want to stop cramming your life into your backseat like a packing gremlin, this cargo box delivers. It’s reliable, roomy, and makes road trips feel way less stressful. 10/10 would absolutely overpack again. 🚗💨

While this product is not perfect, I give it 5 stars in the context of the fact that it is half the cost of what you'd pay for a similar cargo box in a big-box store. In addition, this particular model has more usable dimensions than most. I got this to mount on my 2012 Honda Pilot as we were running short on storage space when going camping with the family etc... and it fits perfectly - as in it does not obstruct the sun roof nor interfere with the rear door when raised. This cargo box is wider than most which makes it very useful - i.e. you can fit more suitcases and stuff of that nature than you could with the long skinny types that seem like they're meant more for ski trips. My wife took this thing half way across the country in several rain storms and water was not an issue. It was also loaded to max weight capacity and seemed to handle it fine. So the PROs: Durable Water Proof Good size The only negative (and please excuse my lack of experience with car roof-top cargo boxes) but mounting it and unmounting it is kind of a pain. Maybe they're all like this. Wish there was some sort of quick-latch system, although I realize that would pose a security problem with thieves. To partially alleviate this annoyance, I permanently adhered the mounting plates (both inside and out) with weather strip adhesive so I didn't have to deal with a bunch of loose parts every time I took it on and off my car. I did quite a bit of research to figure out what kind of glue to use - be sure to use a urethane based adhesive that allows some flexibility. I wouldn't use epoxy or construction adhesive. The ideal would be windshield adhesive, but it is quite expensive. Second best was weather stripping addhesive by 3m which is what I used and it has held up really well. Obviously, don't permanently glue the bracket plates until you line it up to your roof rails and mark all the correct positions. Also don't do this if you plan to use it on multiple vehicles of differing sizes. Be sure to do the proper preparation of sanding and alcohol cleansing After that I Plastidipped the mounting plates and brackets for added grip and protection. Worked great and made it easier to mount and unmount. Overall a great product (and a good deal when compared to competition.)

I bought this cargo box to replace an older Yakima Rocket Box that I dropped from the roof my '06 Xterra and broke. In the closed and locked position the box is very sturdy and secure. I drove it from SC to Fort Lauderdale and back through many rainstorms and all my belongings stayed safe and dry. There is definitely no need to add a ratchet strap around the box for added closure security as is the case for many lower end rigid cargo boxes. The supplied hardware is functional if your car is on the list of "acceptable vehicles." It easily mounted to my brother's-in-law Ford escape, <10 minutes with 2 people, but not so much on my Xterra (I'll expand on this below). Things I don't like: -I don't like that it opens from the back versus the side like my old Yakima. While it does make probably make it more secure going down the road (i.e. won't pop open) it makes it harder to load luggage. You have to load smaller stuff first, slide it forward, then load larger stuff towards the back. Therefore, if you have to get the stuff from the front out, you have to take everything else out. - The box seems very flimsy when opened. My old Yakima practically opened itself once unlocked and the lid held itself in place. The lid on this box twists making it hard to open and close at times. The hinges don't always want to cooperate so if you try to force them you may break them. As for the mounting, if your car is on the list from the manufacturer saying it fits then you should have no problem. I knew I was running the risk of not fitting since the manufacturer is silent on any Nissan vehicle. I did see where someone had previously asked on Amazon if it would fit a second generation Xterra (2005+) factory roof rack. The response led me to believe that it would so I bought the cargo box. The truth is the supplied brackets do fit around the crossbars but the hole spacing in the box is such that the brackets land on the "fitting" which attaches the crossbars to the support bars running from front to back. The brackets do not fit around the "fittings." At that point you have two options, drill more holes in the box closer together or make your own slighter wider u-bolt brackets. I opted for the latter as I didn't won't to risk cracking the box while drilling into it. I just bought some 1/4"-20UNC threaded rod, bent them around the Xterra factory bars as needed, and used 1/4"-20 UNC wingnuts through the manufacturer supplied plates. It is a little more difficult to get the box installed this way (it took 30 minutes to get it on with 2 people) but the end result was just fine. In conclusion, for the money ($250 vs 500+ for Yakima/Thule/Etc.) the value far outweighs the minor shortcomings I listed and I definitely recommend it especially if it will fit your car right out of the box. As for the second generation Xterra owners you have to be willing to deal with a little extra effort. It's not that hard and once you've made the modification you'll never have to do it again. I'd still recommend it. I just wish the manufacturer thought about making the supplied bracket and holes just a hair wider to fit Nissans...especially since there are a lot of them on the road.

The container was perfect for my move from TX to GA. When it arrived I thought oh no, it’s so big, how will I heave it on my car alone. I could lift it up but not over my head onto the roof. I made sure all the fittings worked correctly while still on the floor. Day of the move I had a neighbor help lift it onto the car empty and I secured it. I had 3 large vacuum bags of clothes, a mid size suitcase and a plastic set of drawers. It felt a bit floppy opening and kind of opened on one side but if you are directly at the end it would open ok. I have a 26 VW Atlas cross sport. I drove 9 hours to Gulfport MS in rain at speeds of 70-75 mph and 8.5 hours to Savannah GA. It didn’t cause much noise and mpg went down a little but not much. I noticed a few water stains on the inside as there are multiple holes for varying attachment positions but everything stayed dry. I highly recommend this product.

We bought this to use on my 2017 Subaru Outback for our 2200 mile, 4 day road trip when we recently moved from CA to IL. It was easy to install, and fit on the crossbars perfectly. It was fairly lightweight too. I drove with it on my car for about 3 weeks while it was empty, prior to our trip, even though I know I wasn't supposed to, and it was fine (all local roads, no highways though). It held all 3 of our suitcases plus some pillows and blankets. It was a huge help for storage during the drive since my car was packed, as I had two 30 inch pet cages in the back with our 4 cats in them. We moved in December, so we were bound to encounter some sort of weather, and boy did we! On day 3 of our drive we were headed into a huge snow storm that spanned about 600 miles, which was to be our whole trip for that day. We wound up going north and out of our way to avoid driving in the snow storm all day, but we still drove in it for about 6 hours. It held up great, and the inside stayed dry even though the outside did get a good amount of snow and ice on it. There were a few hours where the roads made the drive really bumpy due to all of the ice and snow covering the ground, and it didn't budge or loosen up at all (we checked to ensure it was still secure every night when we stopped at our hotels). I was averaging driving about 65 - 74 mph during the entire trip, and it didn't seem to be a problem. My husband was driving his car behind me the whole time, and he said when I went over about 75 mph he noticed that it would shake and bounce around more, so I tried to stay below that (but honestly I went up to 80 mph at times when passing a truck for example). I noticed that on the 2 lane highways whenever a semi truck would pass me going the opposite way, my whole car would shake and I was really worried that the lock would break or that the cargo box would go flying off my car, but it held up great and did it's job. I would often slide the cover for my sun roof open so that I could check on it and see the bottom of the cargo box from through the glass, and I noticed that it would bounce slightly as I was driving from the wind but again I was going about 70 mph most of the time so that was expected, and it didn't cause any problems. I did not notice any wind noise at all, however I did get about 5 mph less average gas mileage than usual. It was very sturdy and got us and all of our stuff to our destination. I am happy to have it now for any future road trips, and would definitely recommend it as an inexpensive, sturdy cargo box.

I bought this topper because of the extremely good reviews. But I was unfortunately disappointed. First of all the topper did not fit my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited. In the defense of SportRack this was mostly problem with the car. There were only 3 settings that I could set my racks to on the roof and the closest together I could get them was still not close enough. So leaving in 3 days I did not have time to find and order another one so drilled new holes in the topper to make it fit. Take that for what you will. If you want to say that all of the problems following were because of that then so be it but I fail to see how that has any affect on what happened next. At that point I was still happy with the purchase. Installation was very easy. I left it on the roof for about a week to just test it out before hitting the road for a 2500 mile road trip. No issues driving around town. When I went to load that thing the night before is when I started getting frustrated. The lock didn't unlock very easily and required me to pull back on the plastic to get it to release. I also had to leave the keys in which weighed it down. This really exacerbated the extremely weak support arms. They would not stay up for the life of me. Anytime I would bump the box the weak sides would give and the support arms would drop the lid. Very frustrating. I also did not like the rear load that everyone is raving about. There is no way to reach the front of the topper and therefore you have to get a step ladder and move it to the side to move items up front. Then you have to move the step ladder to the other side to get the items up in the front on the other side. I had to get to step ladders and leave them on each side. I was constantly going up one ladder then the other. Not fun. The opening of the topper is not conducive to fitting 18 inch tall items. I was trying to fit a 15 inch tall tub and I had to slide it in sideways and even then it barely fit. Again the sides gave way as I was trying to squeeze it in. I was careful not to over pack the topper and the one heavy container (35 to 40 LBs) I put up there I put directly on one of the racks. I loaded lifevest, foldable chairs and some towels in trash bags. I used the stickers to cover the remaining holes. Once loaded and closed I thought that it might work. The next day we departed on our trek from Texas to Minnesota. Anyone that has driven this knows there's long sections across flat plains with wind and 80 MPH sections of I29. Before we could even get to Oklahoma my parents who were driving in a different car called and said something was getting sucked out of the topper. So I pulled over and one of the trash bags had gotten sucked thru the opening. Can't be very water tight if that's happening. I removed the trash bag and we continued on our way. But as we approached interstate highway speeds (75-80 MPH) again I was called by my parents stating the topper top was separating from the bottom. Using my mirror you can see the picture my wife snapped of what it looked like. Top should be completely covering the bottom and instead there is a 1 inch gap. That's not very water tight either. So I stopped and put 2 bungee cords over the top. Pretty raggety if you ask me even for the "cheap" cost of $300. I'm glad I did because 100 miles later it poured and I mean poured. My items did stay dry as far as I know but I did not unpack them until a day later when we arrived in Minn. That was not even the worst of my problems. The most frustrating one (and the only problem one can debate may have been caused by the misfit of the topper) was that when I got to interstate speeds and a little gust of wind would kick up the topper would begin to bounce. Anyone that knows anything about aerodynamics knows that the shape of this thing is similar to a wing. So the topper would lift slightly and when the gust hit it and a I'd hit a bump it would just start banging on the top of the car. When I would slow down there would be no problem. But do you understand how frustrating it is to take a 2500 mile trip with a 10 month old and a four year old and have to drive 15+ MPH under the posted speed limit? If you don't I'll tell you....IT BLOWS. My 10 month old puked all over before we even go to the highway. We had to change him 5 times the first day of driving. I'm not talking diapers, I'm talking outfits because he soiled them thru. I did not need this added distraction. I was constantly watching in the mirror to see just how fast I could get to before it started flapping around. Luckily the hardware held and I didn't push it too hard so it made the trip both ways. There were definitely bugs all over inside the topper and the little stickers to cover the holes didn't last. Lastly, and not the toppers fault but on the way home a hotel we stopped at had only a parking garage...Good luck parking there with this thing on top. Pros: It is big, It does lock, Was easy to install, and priced cheaper then Thule or others. Cons: Needed bungees to make it water tight, Could not be driven at normal highway speeds, was a bitch to load and unload, poor support arms and barely functional lock...You get what you paid for. I probably will sell this thing and get a Thule or one of the bags that just sit inside the rack. I saw some of the Thule's that people had were bouncing around too. Anything shaped like that that allows air to get under it could have those issues at some point. But at least they could go the speed limit.

I was a little hesitant to order this but with one road trip under its belt it has more than held up. Installation was pretty quick and easy. I was actually able to get it set up on my own with no other help and I’m not too tall (5’10”). This fit perfectly on our 2021 Highlander Hybrid with OEM roof racks. Once I got it placed on the racks it only took 10-15 minutes to get it bolted in place. It took no tools and has stayed in place just hand tightening the parts. I would recommend using a nice step ladder to make it much easier on yourself. We drove over 10 hours, at least half of which on a major US highway at speeds sometimes over 80 MPH but usually around 75 MPH. This thing was rock solid, it stayed in place with no noise or vibration. I did notice a slight difference in handling but nothing that I didn’t get used to quickly (my wife who is the primary daily driver of this vehicle said she didn’t feel anything different). We really didn’t notice too much of a difference mileage wise on this run. Our inaugural trip did experience a little rain and everything stayed dry. Opening and closing this is a little challenging for the under 6’ crowd. But this is always going to be a hurdle for any of these rack carriers. Having used a roof bag in the past, this thing is so much better! So far I have to say it is well worth the price and meets or exceeds all of my expectations. We still have the 10 hour trip back in a week and a halfway across the US road trip in a month so I’ll let you know if that changes!

Great roof rack. We've used it a few times, and it performs well. It has tons of space. It's easy to secure. It can be awkward getting stuff in and out of it quickly because of the arms and the way it opens, but that's probably true of most roof racks. The reason I love it is that it's sturdy, easy to assemble and remove (can be done alone though easier with two people), and never had any issue with stability. We always double check that it's secure on the car, and locked, but we've never had trouble with either, even on long multi day trips. It can be hard to close if you over pack it, but that's on the packing - and even when it's stuffed and hard to close, it still has stayed locked 100% of the time. Great item!

I bought the SportRack Vista XL to add extra storage space for family road trips and camping, and it has been well worth the money! pros: Massive Capacity: The 18 cu. ft. capacity easily holds large suitcases, camping gear, and folding chairs. No Noise: Drove at highway speeds and barely noticed any wind noise or drag. Weatherproof: Kept all of our gear completely dry during heavy rain. cons: Rear-Opening Only: Because it opens from the back instead of the side, reaching items deep in the front can be a little tricky if you have a taller SUV. U-Bolt Mounting: Assembly is straightforward, but tightening the U-bolts takes a few extra minutes compared to quick-clamp systems on high-end boxes. If you don't want to spend $800+ on a name-brand box, this gets the job done for half the price!

This carrier is large and fits a lot of stuff! It is sturdy enough to get the job done and far cheaper than other brands. It mounts to my Thule rack system with a little wiggling to get the holes in the right spot, but not too much trouble. It's light enough for one reasonably strong person to toss onto the roof and bolt it down with the tool-less gear (metal plates on both sides of the plastic, U bolts and hand-tightened large plastic "nuts"). It went through some serious downpours on the highway and came out dry inside. I think it took a rock strike as there is a scuff but it didn't crack or anything. I didn't want to spend 2x or more for a Thule brand carrier so held my breath and went with this option. I am very happy with it.
