Worked great for our West Marine wooded oars
We installed these black plastic oar sleeves on our 7-ft-long West Marine wooden oars and are using 2 1/4 inch oar locks. We're using them on a 14-ft aluminum skiff. Seems like a good fit.

oar collars
I had to reverse them on the oars because the locks that I bought were too small for the collars; otherwise I will still give them a 5 rating.

The picture tells the story.
These are probably only good with large diameter wooden oars and oarlocks as shown in the picture. I bought Sevylor alluminum oars and Scotty clamp-on oar locks for my Jon boat. Pretty much ended up cutting these collars up and using some of the shaft material to increase the oar diameter to make the oarlocks tight on the oars. Plastic plumbing pipe would have done the same thing. Not the products fault but the description could be clearer regarding suitable applications.

Good product. Difficult to get satisfactory application to aluminum oars.
Works great to correctly size fitting between scotty oarlock and oar. Works best on wooden oars where product can be tacked into place with brack tacks included. I have aluminum oars and tried securing them to oars with electrical tape and duct tape. Did not work well. I am trying nylon electrical ties next. I need to get to water to see how that works. If it doesn't, next option is to adhere thin Velcro to oar and to inside of colar to see if that will secure best. Manufacturer should figure out how to affix these for aluminum oars and put in instructions.

OAR COLLARS
I purchased the oar collars my mistake because they did not work for my jon boat so I purchased oar locks which were better for me. I am sure the the collars work but they did not fit on my oars so I can not make a recommendation.

Scotty's oar locks and collars
Have purchased four sets of Scotty's locks and collars.Easy to install and supremely durable.Found no need for nails tape is enough. My oars are 1 1/4 in diameter. Just inserted a piece of 1 1/2 i.d. plastic plumbing pipe as a filler.

Good for the money
Installed easily. Had to cut a half inch to fit, but they work. I suggest if you do have to cut them use a small drill and pre drill the holes for the nails.

These work great, if you operate a boat you should be able to fit these with a little work.
They fit a "Stanadard" 1.5" to 1.75" wooden oars. If they are too big, you can trim them ( I use a table saw). If you don't want to trim the collars, then you can build up the oar. In the past people would cut up a bike innertubes and slide it over the oar then fit the collars, it adds a little cushion to the stoke. I have used epoxy and a few wraps of fiberglass tape to add some thickness to the oars, works well and looks nice. Too stiff? heat the collar in an oven or boils them, a heat gun can also work. They are tough for a reason.

Fits neatly round oar
Fits neatly round oar, with the vertical slit allowing the sleeve to accommodate to different sizes.

Most suitable for oars >=1.25" diameter.
I've found it frustrating that oars for sale online seldom specify their diameter and that these oarlock shields don't specify the oar diameter they are designed to fit. They have some size flexibility but are MUCH too big for 1" diameter oars. Cutting off excess works for the thinner more flexible part of the shield but the thick collar isn't flexible and has to be partially cut in several places to allow it to wrap snugly around a 1" oar.
