Make sure the system you build is leak proof
I was looking to build a powerful vacuum for my wood shop . I considered building a small dust collector system with this cyclone but decided against it since my machines on on rollers and are not in a dedicated spot . I already had a blue plastic 50 gallon drum with locking ring . Purchased a 2 1/2" X 20' clear vac hose with the cyclone . Was a little skeptical upon opening the box and seeing how small the cyclone looked . Mounted cyclone to lid of barrel , had to work a while to come up with ways to fit my shop vac hose and the new vac hose to the cyclone , none of which were any easy fix .You just have to keep trying different options till your satisfied . My main concern was to have a tight sturdy fit since I am using a 20' hose moving all around my shop . Also to have smooth supported entrance of my 2 1/2" hose into cyclone so as to not be a potential clog point. Everything looked good , tried it out and had lots of saw dust in shop vac . tried several times to figure what was wrong , went back to the reviews to look for help and read that any leak would cause problems . After going back over everything , decided to put foam backer rod in the lid ring slot and all was well . Would never have thought a leak would have been an issue . The help of other purchasers is priceless when having problems . Thanks to all who provide good info . One more main thing , as with any tool , get to know and pay attention to the noise they make , any change in that sound is going to be an indicator that you have a problem . If you get a clog , you'll hear a change in the vac noise and it takes NO time for it to start to collapse your drum . Unbelievable the power of vacuum. After getting everything right , this little cyclone has filled my 50 gallon drum over half full and not one wood chip has come in my shop vac . It works and works very well when it all comes together . This is using a 16 gallon 6.5 hp shop vac . Am very satisfied AND amazed .

BUY THE HOME DEPOT VERSION
I bought this to attach to a dust collection cabinet I made that incorporates a small but powerful shop vac. In short, this thing is a pain in the butt for more reasons than I care to list. However, the top two are: 1) The collector is quite tall and takes up a lot of vertical space. It also has a small base, so the long lever arm of the tube creates a lot of pressure around the base. So, if you buy this, plan on mounting it to a stable platform made of wood, metal, etc. Not a bucket top! 2). The thing is metric, so the tubes do not match any type of SAE hose or PVC. Yes, it comes with adaptors, but those don’t fit quite right either and reduce internal air flow. I went out and got a Homer bucket and a DustStopper from Home Depot ($40) and life became easy...

It works - Use 1 1/4 Electrical Conduit For Connections
I have an old 1 Gallon ShopVac that I never use because it just fills up too quickly. It does have good suction though. I decided to try this small cyclone to see if I could make this work just for the fun of it. I have read the reviews where making the connections was difficult because of non- standard inlet and outlet. After trying several combinations from my PVC and dust collection fittings stash I found that the OD of the female 1 1/4" electrical conduit fits inside of either connection. I just used what I had (see picture). I'm sure that a neater arrangement can be achieved. I still have to improve the cart with a better hose holder. As far as the effectiveness of the cyclone, it seems to work very well. I would say that 95%+ of the sawdust stayed in the bucket.

cyclone adaption to barrel
This cyclone does just what I needed to help keep all my wood shaving off the floor and in a barrel. It's mounted on top of a 55 gallon barrel with a gasket to seal. Using a standard shop vac for suction, and a 20' piece of 2-1/2" clear suction hose to attach to my tools. To adapt, I used a 2" DWV long sweep 90 degree elbow. A insert bushing from 2" to 1-1/2". A short piece of 1-1/2" pvc, and a 1-1/2" street elbow. The street ell will fit inside the top of the cyclone, kind of loose. I applied silicone sealant between the mating surfaces. The 2" elbow will allow the vacuum hose to go up inside. I again applied silicone sealant to both surfaces, but added 4 short screws to help hold the weight of the suction hose. On the suction side of the cyclone, I used one of the vacuums extension pipe. I cut it back until it slide over the cyclone suction inlet tight, applied more silicone sealant around the fit. The 20" piece of 2" clear reinforced hose (bought here on Amazon) will slide over the extension piece and you really don't need a clamp, but that's your choice. I supported the top using a strap and a 2" muffler clamp to keep the weight off the top of the cyclone housing. It works really good!. It's all mounted to a cart with wheels so I can move it around my shop as one piece, vacuum and barrel.

Doesn't fit anything
Not as represented. Dimensions are wrong, coupling included doesn't even fit the cyclone, let alone a standard vacuum hose. Even the brand was misrepresented. The same brand as another ad that at least reflected accurate dimensions (that I did not purchase)

Good Value
Very easy to install and works just like a cyclone should. I had to buy a bucket and a lid but this should attach to larger trash cans out bins without a problem. Used a hole saw to cut a hole in the lid then drilled a few holes for the attachment screws. I had thought I might put some silicone on it to make a tight seal but was pleasantly surprised it worked without it. I had a nice large pile of sawdust to clean up so I got my shop vac out and attached it to the cyclone and had another hose on the discharge and proceeded to suck up my mess. Almost all the saw dust ended up in the bucket and almost nothing in the shop vac. I did notice that I lost a little suction as expected with a cyclone but still had plenty. Later I added some duct tape around my vacuum hose joints and ended up getting a little better suction and it’s a little more robust to move around. I was nervous with how cheap this was and it came with Chinese writing everywhere but it works as expected.

Great product
Was sceptical about this but I can honestly say that it’s a great piece of kit, I have a small cheap vacuum cleaner providing suction for my dust extraction and although I have split the intake it still has plenty of suction. The kit is useful and the cyclone is a great way to collect sawdust and chips if you have a small workshop or are looking for a cheap yet effective way to handle dust collection.5 stars

Does what its supposed to do.
Awesome, works great in this combination, so far 100% dust is in the barrel not in the hoover. very pleased. Used a innertube to seal the hose connections on all connectors. bloody great.

Does a good job for the money
Really impressed with this. It does a good job of separating larger chippings and heavy dust from the light stuff.I've use it with a cheap titan wet and dry vac. When using it with my drywall sander there's some plaster dust in the container although a lot ends up in the vac, it's a bit much to expect it to separate fine dust like that.My setup is held together with duct tape which I think is fair enough for such a cheap setup.

worth trying .
I bought this for my shed /workshop, to use on my table saw and sander,I attached it to a 30lt blue food container, then used my Dyson as a suction unit,I was most surprised at how much suction was produced,Also the Dyson doesn't get any dust in it , so the filters dont need cleaning,Very good VFM ,Smaller than I expected , and made of strong black plastic,,, (no moving parts),Ideal for the DIY type set up.

Brilliant piece of kit.
Fantastic piece of kit! I mounted it on a empty 25ltr used paint container. I have had it for 3 months now and have given it a good testing. It works perfect with no dust being sucked into my vacuum cleaner.
