A sleek, sweet controller, great for retro gaming!
The Retro Bit Wireless MegaDrive controller is a fantastic bit of kit.I have owned a SEGA MegaDrive since I can remember, and I have a plethora of official controls and arcade sticks for the console. This latest offering by Retro Bit is up there with the best controllers not just for the MegaDrive, but for all gaming consoles.I pre-ordered and received the blue version on release day two days ago, and I have spent a good couple of hours with it since. The controller comes in a cool transparent blue colour but it can also be bought in black. Whilst the box shows a somewhat opaque almost Mediterranean Sea blue, it’s definitely darker and more transparent in person, though it still looks awesome. The controller is made of durable plastic and assembled nicely. There’s no flexing or creaking and it feels like it should do: an officially licensed premium controller. The buttons feel nice and solid, and have a good weight to them when pushed. They’re springy without being too loose and feel like original 6-button MegaDrive buttons. The D-pad is a fair bit easier to push than other MegaDrive controllers, however I haven’t found that this causes any issues with control and I haven’t accidentally pressed another direction accidentally. In some ways the lighter D-pad helps in some games, and makes 8-direction centric games - such as Space Harrier II and Sonic 3D Blast - much easier to play. The important thing to note though is that it does in no way impede gameplay, at least with the dozen games I played. There’s also a home, select and shoulder buttons (L and R) for gaming on other devices. The select button pulls up the menu instantly for the MegaDrive Mini. The controller comes with two Bluetooth receivers: a DE-9 one for MegaDrive and a USB one that works on a host of gaming devices. So far I’ve tested the controller on the MegaDrive Mark I, MegaDrive Mini, and the PS3 by playing MegaDrive Collection and I’ve no complaints. The controller also comes with a USB charging cable. All of the items come pre-packaged in a great retro-style card box. Not only that but once the external box is opened it reveals a plastic case to store the controller which has a lockable lid and pre-moulded felt inserts inside to keep all the items safe and secure. I do have to mention that I could not understand what it says on the front of the case. I HEART WHAT? Are those backward alphabet letters or Kanji? Perhaps they’re the code that make up the matrix, who knows? Not me.Despite that minor ... whatever that is, this is an awesome package that you should buy if you fancy using a wireless control for your MegaDrive / MegaDrive Mini, or just fancy playing games in retro fashion on your PC, PS3 or Switch.

Decent
Just like the original Pad . Good quality and feel to it , feels nice in the hand and buttons are responsive . No input lag as far as i can tell . Setup by plugging in the dongle and pressing START and A to sync . Box packaging is also very good . Nice to have controller options alongside the 8bitDo M30 .

Nice but loose feeling dpad
Great for Megadrive, Mega SG, MIsTer , PC etc but dpad is very sensitive and loose.

Great wireless controller for your Megadrive
I bought this controller after my 8BitDo M30 stopped working. I wasn't sure what to expect but it looks and feels great. It's very comfortable to use and once charged lasts ages. Definitely recommended 👌

Feels exactly right
Picked this up so I could play through the old Sonic games again and I couldn't be happier with it. Quality is great, very easy to set up and feels just like you remember it did (even with the nostalgia goggles). If you are looking to play any old 16-bit era platformers I cannot recommend this any higher

Hmmm, just not sure yet...
Just received this yesterday and used it for the night with my Mega Drive Mini.Feels just like the OG controller, with shoulder buttons and a select and home button to get into the Mini's menu. All buttons feel very satisfying, good feedback. There is a dongle so you can use this controller with your OG Mega drive included. You can also use this on your PC with the USB dongle to play your games via emulation. But, after about an hour of playing Sonic 2, the directional pad just stopped working. All other buttons worked. But I couldn't move Sonic, went into the Mini's menu, and couldn't move through the menu at all. So I disconnected the controller and reconnected. Still no movement on the D-pad. So, I had to shut down the Mini and restart it up. This worked and the d-pad is working again. Luckly I had just made a save point in Sonic 2 so I didn't lose anything but this is not a good first impression. And could be a problem with a lot of games if you are playing for hours and don't save......I'm hoping it was the Mini and not the controller but there is no way to know. Either way, not good.I would just be aware of this, could be a bug. Haven't heard anyone else mention this online though.Otherwise, its a well made controller, but this has soured it somewhat for me. I will see how it goes over the next few days.

Worse than the original black wireless controller or wired ones
Maybe I just got unlucky, but the controller I received had buttons that simply did not work. I tested this carefully using both the receivers for PC and original Sega Mega Drive system. Furthermore the D pad is susceptible to unintended up input. Would definitely avoid this particular model. For context, note that I own 3 other Retro-bit controllers: the blue wired one that is very reliable, and 2 original/black wireless ones that also work very well. I'd say the D pad on the wired one is slightly better than the wireless ones. From reading online, it seems Retro-bit might have had some quality control issues with their later products. Be careful!

Modernes Upgrade!

Funktioniert perfekt an meinem MD1
