Generator Carburetor Setreplacement for Coleman Powermate 5000 6250 Watts with 10hp Engine 697978 591378 Caburetor replacement

I installed this in a Coleman 6250 watt generator (5000 running watts) as a replacement for an original carb. I was able to make it work with very slight modifications.First of all, the rod from the governor did not want to go into the hole in the black plastic clip so I had to enlarge that hole a bit. I did not use the clip feature as the original had no clamp there, just a round nylon bushing and there does not appear to be any need for it.At first, I couldn't figure out how to detach the preinstalled tall choke lever from the butterfly. But the arm on the tall choke lever would not pass through the hole in the airbox. I decided to modify the airbox by snipping open the hole so that it is now a slot instead. With this modification, I was able to slip the airbox around the choke lever from the front. The top of the choke lever is up quite high but there is still room for it. I suggest operating the choke in a delicate way because the arm appears quite flimsy. Afterward, I realized that if you remove the metal butterfly (it fits in a slot in the choke lever) you can swap out the tall lever for a supplied short one that is identical to the original. But by the time I figured this out, I had already modified the air box so I decided to just leave it as it is.With these modifications I was able to get my engine to run and run strongly (I choked it to start and it started on the first pull. As soon as it started I opened the choke fully and it continued to run without hesitation). WIth my old carb, even after I cleaned it, I had to run the engine partially choked and I could not load the generator up fully. With the new carb, I was able to run a 1500w heater in each outlet (BTW, the outlets in this generator are split among the breakers top to bottom and not left to right) and the engine barely hiccupped when the loads were added. I could probably load it up even further.The necessary modifications are really minor given the age of the generator and the number of different (but similar) models that each carb needs to fit. They seem to have done a good job reverse engineering this carb, which, needless to say, sells for a fraction of the price of a genuine B&S part. Do note though that there are many similar (probably identical) Chinese carbs on Amazon so I would just go by price.

The carb was an exact fit and relatively easy to install. My B&S engine had the identical carb, but it was fastened with torx studs which required an E5 torx socket. (another tool to buy! ok by me)The unit would not start unless I "primed it by spraying starting fluid into the air intake. Once stated the carb worked well and engine ran very smoothly. Unit is being returned as the no starting is a show stopper.It does come with the about 3-4 choke lever arm options. THe one I wanted did not have a positive connection to the plastic handle and vibrated off. Had the carb worked fully, some glue would have fixed it.

Installed it on my Troy-Built 6000W generator in about 5 minutes. Generator fired right up on the first pull!
