Modernizing kimono, preserving the art.
I love the pictures and the kimono styling is beautiful, but my favorite picture is of a young lady jumping up in the air in a denim kimono and running shoes! For me that's the best. Real people wearing kimono in real life. That's how it will stay alive in the new millennium!I also recommend "the new kimono" if you want to see how real women, and the guys do it today. When you are done reading go to "kimono flea market Ichiroya" and buy a beautiful used one for very little money. They are probably the number one website for this and you can't get a better selection anywhere else. They are THE authority online.

Great Customer service
Absolutely gorgeous book! Also my package apparently got lost in the mail and the seller was sweet enough to keep track of what was going on and sent me another one. Definitely recommend.

A wonderful look into the gem of Japanese culture
A wonderful look into the gem of Japanese culture. There's so much information in this book about the making of kimono, traditional and modern trends alike. It's straightforward and informative and gives you snippets of many different companies/techniques rather than focusing on just one or two and avoids becoming a tedious explanation or text book. Beautiful pictures and engaging layout.

It's a great book.
So many kimono books show the garment laid flat. This book shows them are they are worn. There are lots of interesting articles on people working now to keep kimono relevant to our times. It's a great book.

Beautiful photos, engrossing reading, not about people wearing kimono though.
This is a lovely, glossy book with lots of gorgeous photographs of kimono and kimono related artwork.I've left off the final star as it wasn't everything I expected (or hoped). I thought it would be all about people who wear kimono, how they style it, their wardrobes, their interpretation. There is a lot of this in the book, but there's also a lot of kimono-as-art, kimono-inspired garments and art with kimono as an influence. However, it seems churlish to complain too much when English language kimono books are pretty thin on the ground. I still prefer the Nanao book, as it's more focused on the wearing of kimono by real people, but this certainly is a treat to read.

Nice book with good quality photos and interviews with different ...
Nice book with good quality photos and interviews with different makers of Japanese traditional clothing. It explains the creation of a kimono and how it's a lifelong art to the makers. lt discusses how kimono's are viewed today in Japan and covers everything from the traditional to the contemporary. The interviews are kept short and so it's not tedious or boring to read and I found it really interesting and informative and well worth a read if you'd like to learn about kimono's and appreciate the work that goes into one and their place in society today.

Great and informative read about contemporary Kimono
As a Kimono Enthusiast i absolutely had to buy this. Its not a history book but very informative on contemporary art and Kimono related things.

A nice look at what modern designers are doing with kimono in the present era
A nice look at what modern designers are doing with kimono in the present era. Includes mention of Mokona and Lyuba Johnson. Most images show kimono worn in traditional rather than hime style.
