Very nice in use
UPDATE from November 4th, 2015:I've just read some other reviews and was surprised about negative comments that this knife has received. I am still using it and I still have not sharpened it yet. I like it.UPDATE from February 27th, 2015:I've put this knife through a few dishwasher cycles and it has survived. However, the black plastic on the handle has become a little bit lighter. Not too much to be concerned about, but to let others now. Also, comparing to set of knives from Hampton Forge that I also own, the blade is staying the same nice and sharp and even, but the other knives from the same brand started to get some imperfections at the edge of the blades.I've just cut a large watermelon with this knife yesterday and realized how much I like this tool and should share my updated impressions with others on Amazon.ORIGINAL review:I've just purchased it today at a local store and came to Amazon to find smaller versions. I don't really need a set at the moment. This 8-inch chef feels very nice in my hand (and I think I have somewhat bigger palms). It is indeed "counterbalanced" as advertised. Those three rivets look too classical and that's probably the only drawback of this model. If I would be an industrial designer, I would keep the rivets, but I would shape them differently, to give them a more contemporary twist.I have not tried washing this knife in a dishwasher, so I cannot comment on that at the moment. The instruction states that it should be handwashed. By the way, it does NOT state that it is a stainless steel knife. It is phrased something like "special steel -- no stain." Most likely you should not leave it soaking in water for long time.Hampton Forge is usually considered a cheap brand, but this particular knife so far felt better and performed better than a comparatively priced from Oneida.

Great knife
Great knife! replaced my chopper that was damaged, the set is complete once again, replacing this single knife was a great alternative to buying a whole set to replace one damaged blade.

Mediocre
I wouldn't buy again for $15, maybe at $10 as a cheap spare chef knife. Says the blade is forged which is what lured me in to try a <$40 knife of this size, but it's pretty flexible and develops a very poor edge, indicating that the forging was more like stamped out of sheetstock while hot.Even after a waterstone reset on the edge, it's really poor cutting (out of the box it is like a museum edge). Bought at Target, so I might return it next time I am headed up there.

It has an over sized handle that I really like. I have several very expensive knives
Bought this knife on a closeout and have been surprised by it. The metal is nothing special(3cr14) but does take a razor edge. It has a thinner blade than most forged knives. This makes it lightweight. It has an over sized handle that I really like. I have several very expensive knives, but I find myself using this one more than the others. I love the German shape of the blade. It is almost the same as a Wusthof, just lighter and more flexible. It is as good as you can do for less than $30.
