The VERY BEST Deer Repellant!
I love this stuff. The concentrate is the most cost-effective as well. It doesn't smell anywhere near as nasty as the other repellants. I have VERY strong deer pressure here. Three yrs. ago they ate my daylilly buds (#^^= #&@!!), my new hostas, and my annuals. They even ate a BEAUTIFUL pot of impatiens RIGHT NEXT to the front door on the porch!!!! I was SO upset. So anyway, I spray this stuff after heavy rains and I spray the plants and the grass, etc., etc. I'm trying to train them that everything in my yard really stinks (to them anyway - the smell goes away for me). I spray it on my daylilly buds, hostas, and hydrangeas (which they LOVE) and other yummy plants, to protect them too. The deer babies usually come in and munch on stuff and try just about everything. NOT THIS YEAR. MUCH less deer (and deer poop!). I'm enjoying my morning flower walks instead of cursing and crying about all the flower buds that they ate. So that's it...I love this stuff and won't be without it it...but I gotta tell ya. I spray it OFTEN (probably too often, but I don't want to take any chances!). It's one of my evening activities. SO worth it! Bye!

So far, so good! Review from 2015 updated in 2024
So far, so good. We bought an acre in Pennsylvania, and the former owner was an avid gardener - she left us delightful vegetable, flower, and shade gardens all over the property. PA is overrun with deer, and this is a rural area backing onto a state park, so wild life abounds. Our neighbors also garden and they recommended Deer Out as they all use it, and say it works. Well, I promptly received my order, but before I got to spraying it, the deer found the back plot full of bulb sprouts, and enjoyed an all-you-can-eat buffet. The next morning I found the remains of their deer banquet and was dismayed, but was thankful they only got that one back planter. I looked at the rest of my gardens and thought "You're next!" so I grabbed the Deer Out, diluted as per the instructions, and sprayed everything. I even sprayed the bulb stubs in hopes they would grow back. They did completely grow back and are lush and big - the deer never returned for anything, not even our hostas (and you gardeners all know deer just LOVE hostas!). I sprayed a couple of times after heavy rains. Anyway, so far, it's worked, we are now 2 months into the growing season. I'll report back later to let you know how the product worked throughout the remainder of the summer. UPDATE on June 20, 2015 My veggies are growing and so far, still, so good. I've been using this product for a few months now and have been very pleased. I will update later in the season to let you all know if it's still working. SECOND UPDATE on July 30, 2015 Veggie garden and all plants on the property still intact, including hostas and other deer favorites. Haven't sprayed in many weeks, and all is still well. Pleased with product. It worked for me, as it has for my neighbors. UPDATE on Sept 26, 2015 I must say, this did work. I now have converted my summer garden to an autumn garden with the cooler crops and we have not had ANY deer damage AT ALL. I haven't sprayed in a couple of months, but will give a last spray to the Fall veggies, just in case. I will definitely purchase this product next year. I thought it was a bit expensive and that I'd have to buy a few of these to last all season, but actually, after several initial sprayings, I no longer had to spray, so it was just one container that I bought after all (just as my neighbor told me hers lasted her all season, too). We have seen deer a few times, but they never touched anything we planted, not even hostas or other deer favorites. Quite pleased. Hope it works as well next year! UPDATE 2024 - we've been using this spray since 2015. It works. I've expanded our little homestead, we have many kinds of fruit trees, berry shrubs and bushes, flowers, big veggie garden that's been expanded 3 times, fence is only 4 feet high (yes deer can easily hop it). Other goodies we have that deer like are roses, hostas and hydrangeas. Deer walk through our yard and around our property on a regular basis. They do NOT eat my plants. This stuff works, I swear by it, and a bottle lasts longer than a season. Now, I often spray it after heavy rains. I don't take chances that it may wear off. I am pretty good about spraying regularly. There have been a few times when I neglected to spray for several weeks and the deer did eat something. I even spray in my garden because they can hop the fence. I spray the peas and greenbeans that grow along my fence, it keeps them off. They go to my neighbor's house and eat HER peas on HER fence (because she often forgets to spray her deer out). So, I LOVE this product. None of my friends can believe how much food I grow. They say, "How do you do it? The deer eat EVERYTHING I try to plant!" I tell them about Deer Out but no, they simply do not believe it could possibly work. IT WORKS! You certainly are better off spraying more often. I spray after heavy rains. If it hasn't rained for a few weeks I'll usually go spray just in case. I like to err on the side of caution. I put an ounce of it in a spray bottle, fill with water, and keep in in easy reach so I'm never too lazy to spray. I walk around my property and just spritz everything they like. Easy.

Works better than most
A few years ago we moved from Northern VA to a lakefront community in SC...which also happens to have a very large and hungry deer population. We quickly found out that plants that would be considered deer-resistant or deer-proof in Northern VA were definitely on the menu in our new neighborhood. Over the last few years we experimented with pretty much every deer-repellent product on the market and the only one that seems to work reasonably well for us is Deer-Out. However, it is definitely not a one-and-done type of product....you need to re-apply at least every couple of days in dry weather as well as after it rains. The container indicates that "It won't wash off" but we have not found that to be the case. We purchase the concentrate and mix 1.5oz of product with about 12oz water in a spray bottle and apply it in late afternoon/early evening. The scent is actually quite nice which is a plus.

Very very effective; add spreader/sticker!!
This stuff WORKS. We live in rural West Virginia with a 25 head deer herd in our โneighborhood.โ We have dogwoods, hydrangeas, azaleas, rhododendrons, roses, lilies, begonias, impatients, salvias, petunias, phlox, and a small orchard. I mix Deer Out with a spreader-sticker in a pump sprayer and spray everything about once a month, and the deer donโt touch it. I canโt agree with the statement that it smells minty, but I donโt care. We have beautiful flowering gardens because of this product and I canโt recommend it enough. Enormously effective.

Deer Out!
If you have a garden and deer, you must have deer out! Works well. No deer eating the plants we worked so hard to grow. We are enjoying the fruits of the labor. ๐

Works amazing for deer
We have a lot of deer that visit our backyard and unfortunately a ton of hostas in the back garden. Last year, the deer absolutely destroyed those hostas. This year, starting in spring I applied this deer spray with an airless sprayer and reappplied every 2-3 weeks. They have not touched one single leaf this year. It always keeps the rabbits from eating them too. This is my go to product from now one. Also worked great for keeping the deer from eating the yew bushes around our house as well. A must have if you are trying to keep your plants and shrubs from becoming deer dinner.

Well, sometimes and sometimes not
I'm "lucky" bc we have a large neighborhood deer population and with it, comes all the usual problems with what to plant around deer. Even some young conifers are not immune when they sprout new growth. After over a decade of experimenting with what I can and can't plant around deer I've come to one immutable fact: deer with eat the tender new growth off of just about anything you plant until it gets 'firm'. I had some success with this product in discouraging nibbling, but you have to keep on it- like every day. It doesn't smell horrible and won't harm the plants. You're going to be pretty busy spraying is all I can say. If you care: I can recommend zennias for flowers w/ the caveat that deer will munch on the young plants until they reach the budding stage, which is about 16" from my experience. Flowering sage is another candidate along with lantana, lavender and geraniums. Even the butterfly bush will survive once they start to flower and I used this spray in the meantime-daily. Salvia is another great choice along with ornamental grasses. Any ornamental trees have to be caged six feet up and around until the main lattice frame is one-inch diameter or more to withstand buck 'rubs' and broken branches. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Deer repellent
Been using Deer Out for years. It works well. It doesn't completely wash off in the rain, but does loose some of it's potency. After a few attempts by the deer, they simply move on.
