68RFE Transmission Spin On Filter Screw, Steel Upgrade

Fits 45RFE and 5-45RFE as well HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you increase line pressure
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you increase line pressure to prevent Transmission failure. TWICE that I have used the stock plastic spin on filter screw and Twice did I have to replace the transmission. If you do not get the plastic spin-on filter on just right or too tight it can loosen up or better yet, FALL OFF IN THE PAN. The 2nd time did the most damage when it came off entirely on a drive and I lost all hydraulic pressure in the transmission which caused it to overheat. Not only did it overheat but all of the clutch material from the Torque Converter as well as metal fragments went everywhere. Even a little gap or looseness in the spin on filter and you lose all pressure in the transmission. This replacement is a VERY Important part and is worth the cost. Doesn't make sense why to use Plastic PVC material on a high pressure application... Even Spin On Engine oil filters use Metal Threads. I used thread locker blue to keep the Screw in the Transmission fitting so when I do another service I just screw off the Spin on Filter and the metal thread is already there just like a engine oil adapter. Of course, do take the plastic screw off the new filter that you get and keep it far far away from your transmission. Since this is an upgrade from the plastic, I was able to torque the filter down a little more to around 20 Foot pounds. Been 500+ miles and no problems since.BE SURE on first application to screw the metal piece into the spin on filter tight first before screwing into the transmission. If you use Thread locker only use it on the side that screws into the transmission (Longer Side). That way once you torque it down initially, it should be set for next service whether you hand tighten or torque wrench down.

NOT a Rev Max part.
This is NOT a Rev Max part. The part you recieve has a hex middle ring instead of being a smooth ring. The Rev Max part has an internal hex for tightening. The external hex on this part causes a gap that can allow fluid to bypass the filter.

Not the best
Didn’t use it. If you look around the threads where it seats around the hex- it fits terrible. The original part has a bulbous piece that would somewhat seal in that area. This part has decent size gaps that you can look down in and see the threads. Will it leak much? Probably not but didn’t want to take that chance.

Assurance
Haven’t used it yet but will install it at first transmission service. Nice smooth finish on the threads. Probably not necessary but a little assurance over the plastic OEM part. If the plastic piece is sufficient, this one will last forever. Nicely machined part.

Works great!
Works great on my 2017 RAM 2500 with the 68RFE transmission.

Is it worth the money
Its better than the plastic one, but comes in a no name package, when the ad says it's a revmax product. Definitely doesn't look like the one in the photo. 20 bucks is a little to.steep for this part

Everyone should buy one before you change your transmission filters
