Bought 2 times soon 3
I have bought these twice and used them to learn how to make tongs, they are easy to make and good quality for the price. I will buy another pair for my partner to learn on since she now wants to smith.

Works great
These things are great. I have tried to hammer out tongs before but had no template. I made a few blanks before i tried putting these together. There is plenty of steel to add length to the handles, so that is not an issue. I saw in other post about the rivit being galvenized. I think they changed that part out. I lightly sanded it just to be sure but saw nothing. Down side is you need a set of tongs to make these tongs, lol. Aside from that this is a straight forward design easy to implement. First set took a couple hours just because i wanted to go slow and make sure everything lined up right. My only extra advice would be to have a drill press so you can set the pivot pin correctly, I don't think you could do it with a hand drill as you want a perfect straight hole so as not to get any binding in the handles (reigns).

Perfect beginners set
These look like a very nice kit for beginners! Everything is cut precisely, all edges are clean and ready to forge into their finalized shapes.A different reviewer stated that there was a supposed danger with this kit because the rivets were coated with zinc, and that it must be removed before setting. This is false. These rivets (which are tiny) have such a minute amount of zinc on them, that they do NOT pose a risk of zinc oxide inhalation of any measurable amount. Period. End of argument. This seems to be people's favorite thing to gripe about, and they will call people out on it. You will see these same kinds of comments all over YouTube as well.I question most if not all of these people's actual experience with zinc oxide inhalation, or if they are merely just sheeple, repeating what far too many others like to gripe about.I've experienced "metal fume fever" a few times as a welder. This was while welding commercial and residential gates all throughout the day. And any gate you look at is galvanized steel. So we worked with HUGE amounts of zinc coated materials all throughout the day.As long as we paid attention to ventilation, we were just fine. These tiny rivets??? Ignore any claims that you must beware. If you are paranoid: make sure you have proper ventilation in your shop when heating up your rivets. (But that goes without saying, as anyone running a forge or foundry in their shop/garage will already have proper ventilation.)Just heat and set your rivets, make cool stuff, be smart, have fun.

Great value!
I spent 2 hours with the coal forge to finish up these 5 tongs. Used a drill press for the rivet holes and got good alignment. One of the best investments for blacksmithing tools I have made in 30 years as a hobbyist. Rivets worked wonderfully once brought up to bright orange heat. Re-heated to shape and finish up the heads and make sure they were tight but not binding. I've made tongs from square stock as part of an apprentice class and the time saved by these pre-cut blanks makes it all worth while. I'm not sure why other people ranked these less than a 5 - no regrets from my experience!

Knock off kit with no instructions
I've come to learn that these are a complete knock off from an identical product sold by Ken's Custom Ironworks which aren't much more expensive and come with both printed directions and video guides. This particular set however comes with no documentation, just a QR code that links to Black Bear Forge's video on building the flat tongs from Ken's, which admittedly is an excellent video. The different sets of blanks aren't even labeled in the packaging. However I still have give a decent rating of three stars - the blanks are cut well and go together just fine using instructions dug up on youtube from assorted sources. They are as advertised 15/16" mild steel and at the end of the day you get workable tools you've made by hand.I'd still recommend buying directly from Ken's shop and supporting a small business making kits in the US - the support and documentation is very much worth a little extra money in this case.

Excellent stuff.
Been using these tongs for Nearly a year now. They are good, easy to make and hold up well. They don't Crack if you get the Jaws too hot and quench it in water. Take your time and make them with care and they will serve you well

Knockoff, but good enough
I’ve had blanks from the US market vendors, made them from virgin bar stock, and made some regrettable ones from rebar. The water jet or plasma cut ones from plate mild steel are all more or less the same imo, and if they cost the same as bar stock, might as well save some time, energy, and $. These are a little rough, but on par with everyone else. Decently oiled, poorly packaged (order these by themselves, they will wreck a box and other contents), and likely 1005-1018

Not a bad option for quick tongs.
Still need a forge to finish these properly, but a pretty good timesaver for 5 sets of tongs.

They are not ready for immediate assembly
For beginners, be aware that these need to be forged and formed and actually made. They are actually fantastic stencils and are a great first project for forging beginners. The price is much better than buying fully completed ones. I wish it included detailed before and after photos of what each tong should be made into as the you tube videos are great but it’s hard to find each set of tongs. Overall highly recommended, just be aware you cannot just put them together and start using them
