Sound Of Silence

An artist to relax to and enjoy.
Milos is a talented artist on the guitar. His exquisite artistry is both soothing and calming. The quality of the recording is exceptional as even the quietest of notes is clearly heard.Well known songs such as the 'Sounds of Silence' and 'Nights in White Satin' which have become hackneyed over the years are given such a fresh interpretation, instead of groaning, one can again appreciate them.If in these difficult times you need something fresh to revitalize you, then Milos is the artist for you.

Silence enhances the beauty of sound
We listen to Milos playing the guitar in 16 tracks, in their commanding majority arrangements, variously accompanied by Jess Gillam soprano saxophone (5,11); Manu Delago hang (13); 12 Ensemble (1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 13, 15); Katherine Tinker piano (2, 4, 7, 9, 15); and John Metcalfe percussive sounds (2).What I found fascinating in the album was the beauty of the melodies and the quality of the sound which was at the same time rich and sparse and always evocative while the blending of pop and classical music was seamless. There was hype in the liner note on the magic of silence. What was true was a breathing space of silence between sounds which veritably enhanced the beauty of the sound. In an uninterrupted string of gems, selecting favorites is obviously subjective. My personal preferences which I cite, follow the sequence they appear in the compilation: Famous Blue Raincoat by Leonard Cohen, a piece with guitar accompanied by soprano saxophone; Solitude by Jorge Calandrelli, Cancion de Cuna (Berceuse) by Leo Brouwer and Over the Rainbow by Harold Arlen, all three for unaccompanied guitar.

Probably my fav album of 2019 so far
We saw Milos and a string quintet at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon. I was aware of Milos, but wouldn't say I was a big fan. However, it was a brilliant concert and the time flew by.He mentioned in passing that whilst he was recovering from his injury, he had pulled together the concept for his latest album, but didn't really say much more. I was intrigued so decided to buy this rather than one of the older ones. This album is full of tracks that are floating and atmospheric. His guitar gets lost in a couple of tracks, but that's no bad thing when the accompanying arrangement is so well put together. The weakest track is the somewhat predictable Knights in White Satin, but this album has left me wanting more.

Beautiful but mostly slow melancholy music.
I suppose the title should be the clue. Other classical guitar records I own have a variety of styles and tempos. This is an excellent recording but could be a bit more varied in tempo and mood. I enjoyed this disc; well packaged and quickly delivered.
