There are many varieties of the modern baseball cap, but the prototype, the cap from which all variations derive, is the 1940's woolen baseball cap. In the early 1940's the crowns of these caps were rounder, more like the earlier close-to-the-head style, or the cut we associate nowadays with cotton caps. By the late 1940's a squarer cut appeared, designed so that the logo, by then standard for all professional base ball caps, stood out more.
