Great for summer hiking, even greater for winter inside
I bought three pairs of these socks for a week of hiking the mountains in Acadia National Park in Maine last summer. The weather was warmer than expected, but these socks wicked the moisture beautifully. My feet were cool and comfortable and never felt any rubbing or risk of blisters despite taking a pounding on the downhill runs.By itself, that wouldn't be sufficient to warrant a review. But now I'm home, and the weather has turned cold (thanks to an early attack of the dreaded polar vortex). Normally I suffer from cold feet indoors during the winter, despite wearing slippers all the time. This month, I decided to try wearing these summer hiking socks indoors. For the first time in years, my feet are warm and comfortable indoors. The socks are nice and thick and they wick away foot moisture. They fit inside my LL Bean mocs and make life a lot more comfortable.Back in 1982, I discovered Wigwam socks, loved them, and bought six pairs. I still own them, and still wear them! I was delighted to find that these new Wigwam socks are just as well made as back in the day. Wigwam doesn't sell fashion or fad -- they do manufacture a high-quality, highly-functional product that lasts forever. These socks represent a great fusion of the latest materials and old-fashioned Wigwam quality. My feet say "thanks".

My Favorite Sock
Comfortable, stretchy-snug, wear well, "cushy" and thick--but not too, I use them for my around-the-house-during-the-day pair before I change into my nice, thick, evening, sitting-in-front-of-the-TV pair.

Comfortable warm socks save the day!
I usually wear a women's size medium sock, and this fits as described. More importantly, I do a lot of hiking and I need this kind of sock that will be durable and cruelty free. If you buy durable socks this is more sustainable than buying a whole lot of non-durable socks over the course of many years. It is important to reduce the waste we create on the planet. Buying durable socks is a way to do that. You may be wondering what I mean by cruelty free. First of all, this sock company, Wigwam, only makes their socks in factories in the USA. These factories do not allow child labor or other slave labor. Yes there is still slavery going on today and you are paying for it when you buy clothing from factories that do that. Since I do not believe in supporting strategies that keep poor people poor, I looked up what socks were not made by slave labor on Justice Clothing and found Wigwam listed as a just company. Another aspect of justice is humane treatment of animals. This sock is not made out of any animal products, only man-made textiles and plant fibers. I recently learned that many sheep farmers use a practice called mulesing, in which they slice off the skin and muscle tissues of the merino sheep's rear-end to prevent flystrike. It doesn't really do much to prevent flystrike because the flies will lay their eggs on any wet skin or wool they find. The flies do not limit themselves to the hindquarters. The people using mulesing do this without any pain killers while the sheep is alive. It is horribly cruel to be slicing into the hindquarters of any living creature with a nervous system. Imagine if some one did that to your own pet dog, or to you? How is a sheep so different? Then they just let the sheep go without providing bandages or antibiotics and the sheep have to bleed and get infected until they finally scab over (if they don't die from infections.) This is what convinced me to stop buying wool. This sock meets my needs to have a warm sock that can take me hiking throughout the country as I teach people about the environment while also helping me to fight against several injustices that are happening in the world, to humans and animals. I recommend that you buy this sock. :) I really like the blue color and I hope they will come out with a red one and a purple one too. :) I bought the blue one and the brown one. I also hope that Wigwam starts to use more organic fibers like organic cotton, because that is great for our water and the rest of the environment. :) I love you Wigwam! Thank you for being just and kind!

Great sock thats just too warm for Summer.
I have mixed opinions on these, however it is mostly due to personal preference. I tested these using a waterproof Merrell Moab boot.Quality: they are made well. There is some loose stitching inside but that is normal for this style of sock. Outside the finish is very nice. They seem well made.Fit: I ordered a 9-12 and I wear a size 11.5. They run a bit small for me but they work. The benefit of a tighter sock is that it does not bunch up when walking. After wearing them in a bit, they fit better.Comfort: Here's where I dislike them some. They are very comfortable to wear, and do not retain mositure. They seem to keep my feet dry and don't bother me after long hikes. My one complaint is that they are just too hot. They make a good fall or early spring sock, or even an OK winter sock of the weather is mild. For anything above 65-70 degrees they are just extremely hot... maybe the hottest sock I've ever hiked in. My feet were an inferno after 30 minutes. If your feet are often cold, or you need a cool weather sock, this is excellent. For warmer weather they are just too hot for me. Being a midweight sock I had hoped to were these year round as long as it did not get very warm, as it stands they are now my spring/fall sock.

These match great with my Danner Hiking Boots and my Oboz Hiking Shoes. I have not had any blisters or warm spots since wearing these.

Without a Doubt, My Favorite Socks for Backpacking and Cold Weather
I love these socks and have owned many pairs of them. They are very comfortable, fit well and do an excellent job of keeping my feet warm but never so much that my feet get wet from sweat, even with the thicker styles. The socks do a great job of wicking sweat away from my feet so they stay comfortable in almost any situation. I wear these and the thicker style almost exclusively all winter. When I am backpacking, I also use an extra pair as mittens which provides me with not only comfortable hand warmers but also an emergency pair of socks (I can keep my hands much warmer than I can keep my feet in an emergency). I also wear the thinner styles comfortably even in the hottest weather because of their ability to keep my feet dry inside my boots.Wigwam makes an excellent, high quality sock and my feet are never cold when I'm wearing them. I will remain a consumer of this product because of the high quality and great value.

I love wigwams! I have many of their socks ad this is by far my favorite one. very warm, very comfortable, has a good shape to it that fits well. fits as expected, if you prefer a loose sock or have thick anckles I'd suggest a size up. doesn't pile. I have well used wigwams that have lasted 3-4 winter seasons of heavy use. (and my wife borrows them all the time!)
