Better sound quality than previous volume control
More expensive than the generic volume knobs and sliders, but for a reason. This one has a clean flush faceplate that hides the screws. It also comes with faceplate and knob in four colors in the same box. The wire terminals are high quality screwless clips that snap open and closed precisely. Best of all, this control has a impedance selector in case you are powering multiple pairs of remote speakers from one amp.The sound quality is definitely better than the cheaper knobs and sliders. When I swapped the Niles in, the volume was instantly louder and the sound was way cleaner and had powerful bass.

Failed After One Day
This is actually the third NIles Audio speaker volume control that I have owned. All have failed. I kept buying them because Niles has such a good reputation. The first two were earlier models that required 12 volts in addition to the audio signal. The relay controlled by the 12 volts went bad in each of them and began clicking on and off randomly. This newer unit worked fine for one day and then began to produce extreme distortion of the signal at low volumes. At higher volume, it continued to work fine. I had ordered two units so I replaced it with the second one which has been OK for a few days now. Overall, however, I would not trust this manufacturer.

14 guage wire is a NO GO!
Seems like a wonderful product and feels very solid; however, it will not accept 14 guage wire. 16 is the largest, but the product description fails to mention that. I sent it back and received very fast service..... REMEMBER, THIS PRODUCT WILL NOT ACCEPT 14 OR LARGER SPEAKER WIRE.

Not as good as the 20 year old one
I recently tried three different volume controls to replace the 20 year old one I’ve been using. While seemingly of high quality, they all had audible high frequency roll off, including this one. I returned all of them and put the old one back in. Like many things, they don’t make them like they used to.

Just what I needed, hopefully it helps you.
I'm an audiophile, but I'm not a technophile so I can't relate the technical aspects. But this works for me. I use it to control volume outside the house when I'm on the patio and want to hear the television, while watching through the window. Or listen to the stereo inside and outside simultaneously. Then once inside again, the outside can be shut down to silence.

Working great - very glad I replaced old slider versions
These replaced a slider version I bought years ago. The slider version had issues with one or the other speaker cutting out, and I always had to play with the switch a bit to get music out of both speakers. These just work great. And I am getting at least 20% more volume them (blew the covers off my ceiling speakers for the 1st time).Big thumbs up so far.

Worth the cost over the Monoprice ones!
These are great! They come with white, almond, and black face plates, trim, and knobs - also notice the face plate is the screwless type, which matches my other decora faceplates. The connections are easier than the Monoprice volume knobs (of which, are ok if you're on a very tight budget, otherwise, it's worth the cost upgrade). The whole thing feels high quality as the volume indents provide some haptic feedback as you rotate the knob. I have two of these, one controls Klipsch AW-650's powered by a Denon 4311ci and the other controls a pair of Infinity ERS 110's powered by an Emotiva Fusion Flex amp. Both volume knobs can handle the power of the amps (aka amp volume is up near max and then the in-wall volume knob attenuates the volume to the level I want).I originally bought all Monoprice ones (the 100-watt capable ones, about $15-ish), got this when I added deck speakers and now I'm slowly replacing the existing Monoprice ones I had gotten earlier...live and learn I guess. Also, the impedance matching on the Monoprice seemed to have only a marginal effect on the level, the Niles seems to work better in that regard.I'm using 16 and 14awg speaker wire (Monoprice and Cable Matters speaker wire), the 14awg is definitely a tight fit but it does work, just be careful that no stray strands short out the connections, the 16 gauge is an easier fit for sure.

Think twice about dealing with Amabays
"I ordered 3 of the Niles VCS100K Volume Controls thru Amabays on Sept. 29th, 2017. 2 work fine. 1 was causing amp to go into protection mode. Checked for lose wires, etc. No dice. Swapped out with one of the good ones and everything works. Swap again and it shorts out. Would like to return the broken one for a new one."Sent the above to Amabays multiple times. Never heard back. Product is great. Amabays.......not so much. Think twice about dealing with Amabays.

Volume control does not work with 14 g speaker wire, 16g or up only.
I bought this product to replace a volume control made you know where. It died after three months of extremely light use. There was no comparison between what I had and the Niles product. Everything about the product was well thought out, up to, and including the multiple plate colour options. Nice. Unfortunately, the product description did not included the fact the control works with best with 16g speaker wire. It wasn't until I began the installation that I discovered it was not to be connected to 14g wiring. That info would have saved me time.
