HydronixCB-45-2005 Whole House, Commercial & Industrial NSF Coconut Carbon Block Water Filter, 4.5" x 20" - 5 Micron

I am currently on my third Hydronix filter since buying a house with a well. They work great. When we first switched to this filter, it resulted in an instantaneous change in water quality - prior to the switch, my wife and daughter constantly complained about the taste of our water (“metallic”, “nasty”). Not a complaint since - as others have said, it tastes like good bottled water now. One commenter was concerned about the light weight and, perhaps, poor longevity of the product. That’s a good point, but I can say that I just changed mine after more than 6 months of use and we had noticed no loss in water quality. I only changed it because I felt like it was time. It was dirty, but we had no taste issues in the house. Of course, your water is not my water - it’s just one reference point to consider.

Was using Pentair filters for years, but they have gotten so expensive since covid I was on the hunt for an alternative.I live on a well, so this is more less a taste/odor filter for me….My water is clear from the well and I’m not running any chlorine so the stain on the filter is not so heavy.Bottom line, I change this at 9 month intervals just like the Pentair, the QC of the filters and packaging are great, and these are performed just as well as the Pentair brand at 1/2 the price. Based on the great quality, I also started to buy my RO filters from the same company, consistent quality across the board and certified by all the important agencies. Im all for saving $$ but I’m not buying no name filters made in China, with dubious certifications to boot. Switch over now, you will not regret it.

UPDATED MARCH 2018: I am getting a bit exhausted trying to get information on a filter that actually does remove the rotten egg odor from water. Last year I decided the time was right to start doing some testing. This particular filter is of good construction quality and price fairly for a carbon block filter. However if your looking to solve a sulfur odor problem this is not the solution. The carbon does well to deal with chlorine and other issues but solving rotten egg smell it does not do. Most "water" people recommend oxidizing the sulfur with a whole house "expensive" air, peroxide or chlorine system. Filters then become an obvious choice for those of us on a budget. If you have a constant sulfur smell, the odds are any filtering will help. Now be aware that your odor may be coming from a sulfur reducing bacteria, (a chlorine treatment system solves this for obvious reasons). You will still get a smell once the bacteria produced gas releases from your faucet when you open the tap. The smell will be reduced because there is less sulfur for the bacteria to deal with. This will eventually return to full strength as the filter ages. This higher quality construction is unbeatable for the price. In testing for the last 8 months, they last on average of 60-75 days whereas a spun filter may last around 90 days. In using this I also noticed an initial change in PH until the filter gets worked in the system.

I think this filter would have worked well for us but unfortunately when I lifted it up from the top, the filter pulled apart about 1/3 of the way down the tube leaving it unusable.Just realized I waited too long to install it to be eligible to receive a replacement. That is quite disappointing because I would like to give another try with this product.A warning to those who buy it, always hold it with two hands unless I had a defective one. See photo of the crack.An update on this filter. The company graciously replaced the cracked filter at no expense even though I was past the return time frame. We immediately placed the filter on our well water system. It was in hoped to remove any sulfur odor and oily texture to the water. It is working fantastically. I no longer can smell any rotten egg odor and the water, even though very soft, is no longer greasy feeling. I would highly recommend using this filter with this company.

I have a well for my home in South Florida, and a giant Green Carbon 10 that needs to be rebedded. Instead of doing that for big dollars, I installed this lovely filter in my Big Blue unit that is second to a ten inch sediment filter coming in from the well, and prior to the softener. It worked perfectly at removing a tiny bit of smell from the water! I was thrilled and should have immediately purchased more, because I paid $17.91, not the $42.87 that Amazon is now asking! So, in spite of being a long time Prime member, I JUST BOUGHT THIS ON ANOTHER SITE FOR $23... Good luck!

Good buy. Works

I bought the Hydronix CB-45-2005 Replacement Carbon Water Filter and my water pressure dropped. When I removed the filter and tested the pressure, it was fine. I’m sending this one back and ordering another one when I find another brand. Now, I’m stuck trying to figure out another name brand to get to replace this one.

Well packaged for shipping and works very well to remove odors and unwanted taste that are found in well waters and when spring run off affects water quality.

Easy replacement, everything seems to work as it should. Happy with purchase.

Très bon produit. J'avais acheté un case Big Blue avec un filtre 20 micron pour régler des odeurs désagréables, et j'avais toujours une odeur persistante qui se rapprochait du méthane. Ce filtre de 5 micron fait tout un travail, l'eau est devenue très buvable, et le prix est excellent pour le genre de produit. Je n'ai pas vu de différence de pression avec le 20 microns. Excellent rapport qualité/prix.EDIT: Après moins de 30 jours, le filtre n'est déjà plus efficace. J'aurais espéré une plus grande durée de vie
