![Creature From the Black Lagoon: Complete Legacy Collection [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91Ho6UYio-L.jpg)

The original Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of the silver screen's most unforgettable characters and, along with the other Universal Classic Monsters, defined the Hollywood horror genre. The Creature from the Black Lagoon: Complete Legacy Collection includes all 3 films from the original legacy including the gripping classic and the sequels that followed. These landmark motion pictures perfectly blended Universal's classic monster heritage with the science-fiction explosion of the 1950s and continue to inspire remakes and adaptations that strengthen the legend of the Creature from the Black Lagoon to this day. Disc 1 - Creature From the Black Lagoon Review: Really good movies. - Nothing like the classics. Review: HEADLINE: CREATURE CORRECTED! - After a long wait...finally a corrected, Blu-ray, high-def copy of one of the all-time greats - The Creature from the Black Lagoon!! Now it's not the first movie that was corrected (because all was well with that transfer), but his two sequels...Revenge of the Creature and The Creature Walks Among Us!! After discovering that the first release of the Complete Legacy Collection on Blu-ray had been improperly encoded (and compressed) and transferred for the 2D and 3D versions of Revenge and the 2D version of Walks Among Us, I waited until Universal corrected the problem. Flash forward 6 months and I finally found information that said it had been corrected and there was a new UPC number. Of course every copy I ran across still had the original UPC. So I just went ahead and ordered from desertcart and if it was still the messed up copy Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) would replace it! Alright, let's get down to it! This movie set comes packaged in the usual blue plastic clamshell double disc case in a nicely done embossed slipcase. Upon viewing, this is the corrected version of the Legacy Collection! I am very pleased with the high definition transfer for both sequels and they never looked better!! What a trilogy of fine movie making from the 50's! The Creature has had a special place in my heart since first seeing the movies when I was 8 years old on television and having built the old Aurora Creature model kit! But the most endearing was my moms sharing of her experience seeing the original Creature movie in 3D at the movies when it was released when she was a teenager! If you are a fan, or if you just like good monster movies, then by all means purchase this set, you will not be disappointed!! Even if your not sure about the correction; rest assured that UPHE will be more than willing to replace the defective disc. So...grab a bowl of popcorn, grab your gal, get comfortable, and just let yourself slip into the past of the 50's as you enter the desertcart in search of the mysterious and elusive Creature from the Black Lagoon!!!

Fine, family fun!
I love this film. Old timey horror flick with goopy monsters, screaming & screechings. I saw it @ a triple feature ! The Drive -in. My friends & I ordered pizzas, (Drive ins offered food & soda: CONCESSIONS: they called it!!) and we settled in for a triple film night of (1950's) Sci-fi horror films!!!. Great fun! This food was far & away much, much better than fast foods of 2025! Cheaper too! Way cheaper! The Creature from...was scary in his own right! Untamed, wild & pointy- screaming thing that he was! Big lizardy paws, long (unpainted nor polished) nails, & shreiking all the time. He is not ugly, just misunderstood. Perhaps some time @ the Drive- ins Concession stand would have done him some good? He certainly could have filled his tummy up there instead of eating frogs & such swamp nonsense. Highly recommended. Fine, family fun!

A Real Classic!
I was just a small fry when my pop took us to the show and saw this movie when it came out in the mid-1950's. I was awe-struck when I saw it as a child, and still am, just in a different way. IMO, these CGI science fiction/horror movies out today take a back seat to true classics like Creature From The Black Lagoon. I'm glad that they filmed it in black and white. The scenery is so primitive looking and pristine, that when I first saw it, I believed that it WAS filmed in the Amazon. Hollywood's motion picture cameras and lenses used back at that time gave a picture and perspective that, again in my opinion, were not only unique, but in some ways superior to the special effects gadgets and gizmos of today. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is that the picture, while focused pretty well, doesn't have a good, vivid black & white contrast to it. It's like a tint is on the film and wasn't cleared up before releasing it for home purchase. I used as much adjustment in the brightness and contrast functions as I could with my video player, but it made virtually no difference at all. On the other hand, there are 2 things that I was pleasantly surprised about: (1) The picture fills the entire screen of my 43" flat screen TV. In my experience, most remakes of older movies don't fill the screen unless you put it on the zoom mode. (2) I've always had a passion for how movies are made, and there is a special feature on this DVD showing scenes of the making of the movie. Also, some of the actors, in later years, look back and comment on their roles in the film. And there's footage of the making of the Creature's costume. I absolutely LOVE watching and listening to all of that. All in all, I'm very happy to have the video. If the black & white had been vivid and clearly contrasted like so many other remakes of 50's shows are, I wouldn't have hesitated to have given it 5 stars. I thank God that I grew up when I did in this country, and movies like "Creature From The Black Lagoon" is just one of the reasons why.

UPDATED Review after Universal corrected the defective disc.
December 6 2018 UPDATE: I received my replacement from Universal as of today. According to the padded envelope it was mailed out on the 30th of November. I haven't had a chance to watch all of it but I did scan it and compared it with the previous disc and I concur with the previous pot posted on the Home Theater Forum that the 2D version of Creature Walks among us is not the same as the previous. Yes it is still a very soft picture and does look more like DVD quality but from what I have read from the company that did the restoration on Creature Walks Among Us is that Revenge of the Creature had lots and lots of dupes utilized in its creation and that there is not as much original negative available as there was for Creature Walks Among Us. I assume that this is the best possible source that they had to use and this is as good as it is gonna get. I am not disappointed with it. Wish it could look as good as the other two but if this is all they had to work with I am just glad to have it finally in hi def now. Given that information I am going to move my rating to 5 stars. September 4 2018 UPDSTE: I tried to email Universal via their web site but every time I hit send I would get an error page. So, I sent them a message through Facebook asking if they were looking into the issue and asked if there would be a replacement program. As soon as I hear back from them, if I hear back from them, I will post what I find out. I encourage every one here to do the same. If you do send them a message be sure to be polite :). If you are expecting a high def copy of Revenge of the Creature in 2D, it isn't in this set and that is for sure. I won't elaborate on the 3D version because I do not have a 3D player or a 3D TV. The 3D is useless for me . BUT I am highly disappointed in the 2D version. As has been previously stated the picture is soft. Defiantly not Blu Ray presentation. I would compare it to a high grade SD version, but not a HD Blu Ray version. In my opinion my standard DVD has just as good of a copy as the "Blu Ray". I work very hard for my money and when I buy a Blu Ray I expect HD. The Creature Walks Among Us looks amazing. Universal really does need to go back and reissue this Blu Ray with a HD copy of Revenge of the Creature in 2D. When/if they do, I will re-buy the set. But if all I am going to get is a SD version, I will just keep my DVD copy.
