Great encouraging book to help them get through there struggles
My son who is 10 had a piano recital right before Christmas and he was so nervous. He wanted to quit. He accidentally picked this book up in his class library at school and read it. He came home told me about this book. It is about a boy who had to do a piano recital for talent show at school and he was so nervous he didn't want to do it. But in the end he does and he feels very proud of himself and loves all the praise he gets. This book helped my son do his own piano recital. My son felt the same way afterwards very proud of himself and his accomplishment and loved all the praises he received. We saw huge boost in my sons self confidence afterwards. All of a sudden he seemed to have a new found love of playing the piano. He actually enjoys practicing now. I decided to buy this book for him to help him remember what helped him get through his first piano recital.

FINALLY...a book (series) my daughter loves!
We have struggled finding books my daughter wants to read (7yo, 2nd grade). We've tried fairies, horses, mysteries, magic tree house, junie B, judy moody, fancy nancy, you name it. She would always read a few chapters with us and then get bored. We got a preview of The Black Lagoon series in a scholastic book order and she loved it. OK, so I bought a 4 more for Christmas, just to be hopeful. She read right through them (took anywhere from 30min-50min each). And we didn't even have to be there - she did it on her own. She loved them. Yes, they aren't long chapter books, but they are a great introduction for those who can't quite sit down and read chapters in the same book night after night. This has also boosted her confidence, as she wants to read more and now says she wants to move up to the next reading level in her class so she's going to practice. She is so proud of herself - it is wonderful to see. This one (the talent show) was her favorite of the 4 we got (also science fair, little league, and class trip). She thought the end was so funny! We will definitely be getting the others in the series. Thank you M. Thaler and J. Lee!

Great Series!
A great extension on the picture book versions of this series, these titles provide more text, some illustration, and a deeper story than their predecessors. This is a brilliant next step in following this series and a welcome opportunity for those getting into independent reading. Feel confident that your children will not only enjoy the series and stories but love this next step in the collection.
