Great start to a hopefully great series
Reviews are important, authors on Amazon go overlooked by big name authors all the time because if a book doesn't get so many reviews (100 or more) then Amazon stops pushing it to new readers. My review- this book is pretty good, like definitely good enough to make me stick with the series to completion. Theres a solid base for the MC so we can see his background and watch as he develops, adding new characters at a good pace and slowly bringing everything together. It's a fun read and yet still long enough so it doesn't seem rushed.Try this book. I think you'll like it

Delightful
A fantasy adventure oriental in design, and rich in story, yet nicely paced and edited for easy consumption. The bones of a shonen style story may be underneath it all, but there’s a lot of meat here to go past being “just” that kind of story. It’s good, fun, full of magic and adventure, sensuous without going overboard, and has a plot that could lead many places. Great fun. Recommended.

Pretty Entertaining...
...story. There's elements of cultivation mixed in with a rigid magic "system." The protagonist gets the benefits of being from the outside (and the negatives), while being able to forge a new path that takes the system by "surprise." Nothing in this first volume grabbed my imagination. But, it was an entertaining read, so I am on to the next volume.

I could not put this book down.
I've always liked to read but before reading this book, I watched series after series on Netflix. Once I started this book, I could not put it down. I forgot all about Netflix. The details and descriptions of every sceen was every bit as captivating as the best Hollywood movie. I felt like I was in the story in the very magical world described. I wanted to write since I was a young boy and did well at it college but reading this book left me in awe of what images and imagination is possible just in writing. I bought several books in this series and I can't wait to what Mr. King has in store for me in his next book.

This was unique
This started well. Good story and the characters developed well.I'm not a fan of the magic... Well what you have to do to get magicI'd read a few reviews about combat being an issue. I see their point this is more like Magic The Gathering combat vs say Dungeons and Dragons but realistically its not much of an issue.

Excellent Series!
Excellent book, with well developed characters, fast pasted action and some adult spice for fun. Ethan is displaced in time and space, on a new world with magic, fearsome creatures and hot females. He has a new destiny and to master it he must learn to fight and control the forces within himself. This is an enjoyable book from an excellent author.

Beautiful dragon ladies, let down a bit by repetitiveness
Review based on books 1-3Took me a couple of chapters to really get a good feel for the book, but it slowly settled into an interesting story/world (5 stars). Lots of fight scenes, a bit too many for me, but that’s personal preference. Some reviewers mentioned the choreography of the fights. I didn’t see a problem myself, not all writers need to be martial art experts. This genre would be pretty thin on the ground if that were the case.Book 2 still felt fresh, and improves on book 1. However, by book 3, it was getting repetitive. Similar scripted fight scenes, and story scenarios. I also felt the companions took a backseat. Interactions lacked dimension, with the MC hogging most of the POV. The 1st book had a better companion interplay, which is a shame because the story includes a strong character lineup. The ending was good though, and although I haven’t read it yet, the reviews for book 4 look encouraging.
