Wonderful

I purchase this book to use with the history quest curriculum. After the first lesson, I relised my children were very interested in the book, and that history quest was going to "water down" or bore them of the information. After finishing only 2 pages of the encyclopedia, the curiosity flowed and they began asking questions and we were having meaningful conversations about history and what, or how we can learn from it. After reading the pages and watching the videos from the encyclopedia, we then referred to our history quest book as the curriculum was laid out and they instantly lost interest. They were looking around the room and fiddling as I read the long chapter. One month later and we have yet to use history quest again. We decided to begin at the front of the encyclopedia, reading two pages at a time and watching all videos and completing the activities included ( there are videos, and sometimes there is a game, or addional pictures.) We do the activities and print the pictures to color or to label. Our history lessons are now guided with facts and completed with curiosity. I regret purchasing history quest, this book alone is enough. I purchased two addional encylopedias for each of my children so hat they can follow along and look at the pictures and diagrams. I don't have to plan ahead, and I don't have to fight for their attention. We complete two pages at a time, the pages are set up to open as a spread focusing on a single topic and going in order throughout history. The links are also organized by the pages so you can read pages 13-14, and watch the videos and do the actives for those pages. I'm Very pleased with my purchase and im happy to see my kids have an interest in history. I am already looking into other usborne encyclopedias for our studies.

I bought this for my nine year old because he's interested in history. I wanted him to be able to learn more about world history so that he's inspired to think beyond English school syllabus.This did it. He's been devouring it, and says it was one of his favourite birthday presents. It covers so many different cultures and has brilliant illustrations.

The book is great, highly recommend it. Also recommend that whoever is in charge of packaging to take note of how heavy an item is before it is crammed in a too small envelope instead of an appropiate sized envelope or box. It's a heavy book and it came in an envelope that was open on one side. Really shouldn't happen. Had to wait for a while before it came and then to recieve it like this is rather dissapointing. Really don't understand why innapropiate packaging is a recurrent issue. The book itself however, is very informative for children and gets five stars.

We purchased this to accompany the history curriculum "The Story of the World". It is a beautiful resource that is full of engaging illustrations and detailed information. Our children love to read it and always have excellent questions and observations after spending time with it.
