Classical Arminianism

A Great Resource!
I bought this book, because although I wasn't convinced on the five points of calvinism, i realized I never heard the Arminian perspective supported seriously. All I ever heard from the pulpits ive been under in the past was essentially, "we're not calvinist", but no real attempt to support the other perspective. I am really glad I read the book. The author broke down a lot of scripture. Gave criticism on the five points of Calvinism(quoting many reformed theologians, especially Piper when he goes through Romans 8 and 9) while still respecting those who hold the other view(which i feel is very important, if the body of Christ is going to have any healthy debate, and made a convincing argument for the Classical Arminian position). It gave me hope that you can still have brains, keep a high view of total depravity, give God ALL the glory, and still be Arminian. Whether you lean more towards Arminianism or not, this would be a good resource on your shelf. All my favorite pastors are Reformed, my church and elders are reformed, my best friend is reformed, just not me yet:) This book was fair and made no pot shots (except for maybe one sentence that i remember)which is so important to me. I would have a hard time reading any book if its going to unfairly peg other Christians. So i would commend this to you if you want a fair argument for the Classical Arminian position.

Good for Calvinst
As a Calvinist I found this book I immensely helpful. I was able to skim through the beginning sections that speak of our position. As far as new content, this book helped me grasp Arminianism, and cleared up many misconceptions.

good introduction to Armenian theology
Generally speaking, Armenians write books about mission and spirituality while theologies tend to be written by Calvinists. The lack of significant theologies from an Armenian perspective means that those studying theology find themselves swimming in strong currents pulling them in the Reformed direction. This book is a welcome addition for those desiring to understand issues of election, predestination, atonement, and preservation from an Armenian perspective. The author tries to present the Calvinistic perspective fairly while also showing how the Armenian perspective is often misinterpreted and confused with Pelagianism and the governmental view of atonement. The fundamental difference between the Calvinistic and Arminian perspectives as presented by the authors is that Calvinism is a cause and effect relationship between God and humans while Arminianism is described as influence and response. There is a useful discussion of personhood and the role of freedom in divine human relationships.I give it four stars mostly for the writing style, which is occasionally repetitive. It could have used some editing.
