I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Dr Maya Angelou (1984-01-26)

I had never read Maya Angelou before. Now I know why she is famous. This book is sort of an autobiographical story of a black girl growing up in the 1930's and 1940's. I grew up in the 1940's; although I'm white, I was poor, so I can relate to parts of this book. But what I loved about the book is that nearly every sentence is an architectural construction. Ms. Angelou's way of writing is just marvelous. Prospective authors should read it just to get an idea of what can be done with language as a story is being told. Would also be good if English is not your first language. Buy it, read it and pass it on!

The book arrived immediately and the font is large - but the paper quality was a little poor. The edge of each page was not well cut.The book is obviously very well written and interesting in places; but personally I couldn’t relate to the story that much. It’s easy to read.

It’s a classic for a reason. Through the lens of an African-American girl from the depression era south, comes a lot of wisdom and wonderful turns of phrase.

My 8 years old is reading this book and love it. She said "Maya pulls me in and makes me feel like I am part of the story" 🤗

Good book to add to my book collection.

Overpriced

I read book years ago. It is great. This small paperback was not covered that was displayed. Charge of 4.99 for delivery, paperback with tiny print. Very disappointing as this was going to be a gift.

Le Sud des Etats-Unis depuis les années trente , vus par une petite fille noire qui doit très tôt faire face aux discriminations et injustices de toutes sortes générées par un système inégalitaire et grossier.Très bienécrit , souvent émouvant et drôle , et toujours digne . On a l'impression d'y être .

a must read for everyone...a quite amazing book and one that if you missed as a child then you must read in matureyears
