Brake Caliper Press, Universal Car Pad Ratcheting Caliper Piston Compression Tool with 2 pcs Steel Plates (Red)

This tool functions well, but....
This tool functions well, but the longer plates even though are magnetized, and sloted with guide pins, they still tend to slip off or come loose. Other than that, this tool did the job and worked for my needs to change out brake pads on calipers.I would propose they modify the guide pins so the plate can lock in to place like a key hole slotted design. That way they do not fall off directly.

Great tool 4 the $
Great tool 4 the $...... Not as good as one off the tool truck but way cheaper.

It works
Worked as needed…… bought thinking you could leave the rotors on but have to take rotors off to compress all pistons

Works like it's supposed to, but the material is a little weak.
I used this to compress the pistons in my calipers for my 1999 7.3, which is probably the heaviest application anyone would probably use this for. Worked fine, but I wish the steel they used in the adapter plates was stronger. I ended up bending mine just because if the force that was applied. Decent for the money, but would probably be better used for smaller applications.

Excellent brake job tool
I read all the negative reviews. Some are valid concerns & some are just common sense. So here are some tips when doing a brake job:1) Remove the cap of your brake fluid reservoir. Doing this will make it easier to compress / push back in the brake caliper piston as the air trapped inside the brake reservoir needs to go somewhere.2) Do not force the tool when compressing the brake piston. Do it slowly and allow the brake caliper piston to move back in with little force. So turn the tool handle slowly and let the brake caliper piston move back in to its housing with very little force and it will go in smoothly.3) It is true, the plates will not move without applied pressure to both plates. So here's what you do. Spin the plate that moves freely, spin it outwards until it will fit snugly to the brake caliper. Once the tool is in there snugly - now apply a little pressure to the plates while turning the tool handle and the tool plates will start moving outwards pushing the brake caliper piston back in. Do this slowly & allow the brake caliper piston to move with very little force. Force it and you will brake the tool.Other than the above - this is an outstanding tool to use to compress the brake caliper piston when doing brake jobs.Hope that helps.

Have not had the chance to use this yet. Waiting for weather to warm up a bit. Initial impressions. Looks like a useful well-made tool. There are a lot of these style around. Build quality - while it looks heavy duty, the rivets in the handle assembly are not fully peened and this results in some sharp edges around the peen heads of each rivet. I don't think you would cut yourself... but maybe. This is an awkward tool and may be hard to hang on your pegboard. They could have made that easier by having a hanging hole at the end of the handle. I like the extra, larger plates that are held in place with strong neodymium magnets. There seems to be some glue residue left on the extra plates near the magnets.Used the tool today. It worked flawlessly! I was working on my Toyo Sienna and it fit fine. You can spin out the adjustable plate to make faster to fit it in. Fit like a glove. Did not even need brake pad as a filler. Maybe place a little grease on the jack screwBlessings,John 20:29

Does what it is supposed to do
Yes there is slippage of the rachet when there is no pressure on the plates, but that is easily fixed by just squeezing the plates together on one end until they engaged with the caliper to create enough friction. The metal plates are heavy enough not to bend when used. The minimum size may be problematic with smaller calipers and you may need to resort to another compression method to get enough gap to fit the plates between. Overall it works and I don't have any serious complaints.

Broke first time using..
Pushed back the 1st caliper, worked fine, on to the second, half way through pushing it back, the ratcheting mechanism stopped working and would compress the caliper any more.1.5/4 calipers completed. Very disappointing.Felt well constructed, shame it sh@t the bed first time using it.As others have mentioned, requires some tension to get it to start pushing back.
