I came across Feibing's Leather Sole & Heel Edge Dressing in my search for a product that would help restore the black synthetic heel and outsole on my daily Oxfords. This product is basically a water-based dye that is easy to apply, but can also be very messy if one isn't careful. Drips are easy to clean off hard surfaces, but it will quickly stain any fibrous materials so it's in one's own interest to lay out some newspaper around the work space. I found that applying a single, wet, and even coat gives better results than if the product is used as instructed. Because it's water-based, it takes about 10-15 minutes to dry completely and the product will run in the meantime if applied wet. If the smooth surface layer of the rubber outsole has not worn off, the dressing will leave a semi-glossy finish. If the rubber wall has been scuffed, rashed, or worn off, then it will just darken it. The effect that can be achieved can be seen in the accompanying photos. Photos to the left of the bottle picture were taken before the application of Fiebing's Dressing and photos to the right of the bottle picture were taken afterwards. The last picture shows a dried run and how well the dressing darkens a weathered rubber sole. The dressing generally lasts the time between polishes if one doesn't go out of his way to stomp in puddles or kick piles of dirt. I haven't tried this stuff on leather soles. Overall, this is a good product that helps hide unsightly rub marks to give a shoe the nice finishing touch.

I use this sole and heel edge dressing on a lot of work and cowboy boots. It is easy to apply and holds up well as long as you let it thoroughly dry. Also, a few times I have needed to apply a second coat to well-worn boots. The applicator is included in the lid, and I have never had a problem with it wearing out or drying up.

Ok, here is my shoe polishing resume: my dad was an officer in the military & my kid jobs/chores were shirt ironing & shoe polishing. AND I currently own more than a thousand pairs of shoes - nuts to you, Imelda . . . I other words, I have just a bit of experience maintaining footwear. This edge dressing is thin & requires several applications to get a properly dressed edge. Combine that with needing to let each application dry between coats & this stuff becomes a true pain in the tush. Applying edge dressing should be like applying ink & you should only have to do one pass around the shoe to get a satisfactory result. Old school edge dressing covers up all the chips and dings you get on the sole & heel edges. It needs to survive water, salt, mud & city streets. This stuff ain't it. My first impression was that someone watered the product WAY down. We'll see if it survives a trek in the rain, but I doubt it.

Good product for shaping up the heel and Brin of you shoes. Works well. Great shine. It holds up well too.

Easy to use to touch up scuffed soles or heels on cowboy boots. Be careful this can stain leather, I found q-tips good for tight areas. Makes edges look like new again. Recommended.
