Westcott 15917 8-Inch Lefty Titanium-Bonded Scissors

Great scissors! Westcott scissors are very good and very affordable.

My left handed granddaughter struggled to cut with her right hand and trying to cut lefty with righty scissors was not good. These do the trick and she doesn’t ask for my help anymore.

After hand surgery, I decided to spend the money for a lefty pair of scissors since I can’t use my right hand for several more weeks. When I received these, I confirmed that the packaging said they were left handed scissors because there was no obvious difference between them and the rest of my scissors. That led me online to google the difference in scissor types. These weren’t left-handed ones. I’ll keep them because they are good scissors, but now I’ll continue my search for what I actually need.EDIT: inspection of the packaging revealed that a bar code for the left-handed model had been put over the real model number, which is that of a right-handed scissors

I am right-handed, but have always used scissors with my left hand. I never thought of there being a difference between lefty and righty scissors until my husband pointed it out. It has to do with how the force and leverage are applied to the upper blade. Using right-handed scissors in the left hand sometimes results in paper sliding between the blades when cutting. These left-handed scissors do a better job cutting for lefties because the blades are pressed closer together in the correct way to leverage force. We keep these scissors in the junk drawer in the kitchen and use them for things like opening packages, cutting bands from produce, and snipping up paper receipts. I haven't tried them on fabric, but they look like they would be good for that, too. My only gripe is that it took a month for them to arrive, but that has nothing do with how great the product has been.

I have used left-handed scissors in the past and not had much luck with them. This is the first pair that actually makes a difference and I can stop struggling to cut things.

I will say they are sturdy, however, in order to cut properly, (since these scissors are not true left-handed scissors), you end up holding them backward, which defeats the purpose. They would be comfortable, if the cutting orientation was correct. Good thing they were inexpensive. Now going into the "junk drawer" for cutting "anything".

My 9 year old son is a lefty. All of the scissors we have in the house are for righties. I think it just never occurred to me how difficult it was for him to cut things until one day I was sitting next to him while he was trying to use our scissors. His hand position just looked so awkward. I felt horrible for subjecting him to that for years. Now that he has this pair, which works for both righties and lefties, cutting is no longer a chore and he gets much better results.
