Impressive
Now that my son is older and buying his own gear I have gone back to Shimano. 🙂 The Stradic FL series seems to have many excellent reviews. I’m very impressed with this reel in the 1000 series. Solidly built but still light enough for an ultra-light 7 foot crappie setup. They claim the spool’s new design improves distance. After having a chance to use it I do think it helps a bit. Bear in mind that I am throwing 1/64th thru 1/8 jig heads. YMMV. Overall, nice little reel. Very happy with this purchase.

Very nice
Treated myself to one of these in 1000 size for a dedicated crappie reel. It's butter smooth like all Shimano reels, holds plenty of line for my application, and looks very good. Handles crappie just fine and could also be a great for largemouth.

The quality shows - well worth it
This is the best reel I've ever owned and I've been fishing for 50 years. Smooth, lightweight and never any issues even after the reel was completely submerged for over a minute. I do a LOT of fishing and this is my new go-to reel.

Great reel
I fish mostly for Crappie and sun fish. I put this reel on a Phenix feather 7f and it is a great combo. Casts far and it is easy to handle.

Worth Every Penny!
Super smooth, lightweight reel with a great drag system. I have it paired with a 6'5" MajorCraft ultra light rod and they are a perfect balance! This reel can cast 1/8 ounce jigs/lures 30+ yards effortlessly with 4 pound mono. After years of purchasing $70-$90 reels, I have finally learned to treat myself to premium fishing equipment, as this reel is definitely worth the price. Tight Lines everyone!

Outstanding
I have a Penn spinning reel and this is like going from a Ford to a Rolls Royce. Smooth as glass both casting and winding. I got the 1,000 and it holds its own with very large bass. Well worth the money.

1000HG Impossible to work on.
I tried to take this reel apart to simply grease and oil. Holy #$@%. You have to have special tools. I ended up making tools to take the microscopic screws out. I have worked on all my reels (30+) in all my years of fishing. This is one of the craziest things I have ever seen. The parts are so tiny I had to use precision tweezers to aid in removal. One allen screw was the size of a pinhead. I look at some of the parts and they seem to have no use other than correct a design flaw. I am looking at having to replace this size reel because I damaged it just trying to remove a nut. It will definitely not be another one of these.
