Sun Records: Essential Collection / Various

Playing these CDs right now as I work, and this set is a really good look at the entire history of Sun Records! It has 3 CDs, one of which covers the Rockabilly sound (including something from the Million Dollar Quartet session!), one covering the Blues material and the other covering the artists that spanned the line between Country and Rockabilly.Sound quality is really good, and the selection of artists is really good! It even includes a song by one of Sam Phillips' favorite artists, Howlin Wolf. Also, you'll find some of the foundations of Rock n Roll here: Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and even the record many feel is the first Rock n Roll record, "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston!If you're looking for something beyond a single disc set that represents a label that did more than its share to start and revolutionize a form of American music, this is a great set to have!

A good general introduction to the minor miracle that was Sam Phillips' Sun Records. Mostly devoted to the less famous stuff. The three discs are divided into rock and roll, country and blues. You most likely don't know most of the rock and roll, as there is no Elvis, but it's fun stuff. A lot of the country is somewhat lame but the Charlie Rich side "Who Will The Next Fool Be" is a revelation, and Sleepy LaBeef had a hell of a voice. The blues disc is the overall best, but you need to have a taste for the raw stuff. Worth a try.

This set is very nicely presented and the sound quality is quite good. I was a bit disappointed in the songs/artists but might have misunderstood the description. I was expecting the rock and roll greats like Elvis, Jerry Lee, etc but it was mostly much older guys who I have never heard of. Especially the country CD. Way, way old songs and singers. Most again, I had never even heard of.

Excellent compilation of rock/blues/country music pioneers recorded at the iconic Sun Studios.

Great three album set that features not over produced syrupy renditions of classics...the real deal worth much more than the cost.

One of the many compilations of great Sun music on the market. This is a 3 disc set with a little bit of everyone who recorded there except Elvis, of course. If you don't have these songs in your collection on another package, you can't go wrong with this one.

Great cds love the music

A recent holiday featuring a visit to Sun studios meant that this was an ideal birthday gift for my husband.We are working our way through this cd and enjoying a great selection of tracks and I would agree that this is "an essential " that everyone should have in their cd collection. It comprises of 60 tracks on 3 cd's packaged in a nice tin.Good gift idea.

Classic eclectic mix of Din Revords songstress

makes up the set although there are a lot of tracks that are on other sun box setsits a shame they don't do a 10/12 disk set that covers the lot but hey ho ( I hate that phrase ), it would give me more room on the cd racks.

This is a very smart collection of the very early SUN recordings featuring Rock & Roll, Blues and Country.Interesting reading inside about how Sun Records got started in Memphis, Tennessee and three CD's presented in a special box set. Good Price and Excellent to have in any CD collection.

Was advised by seller about possible fault on CD2, but played all 3 CDs, and played perfectly. Very happy with purchase.
