When to plant:Plant bareroot peonies in the fall (prior to the first frost) and they'll have the best chance of blooming the following spring. Where to plant: Picking the right spot for your peony plant is essential to its success. If sited incorrectly, deep roots make transplanting mature plants difficult or impossible. Aside from plenty of sunlight and nutrient-rich soil, you¡¯ll want to make sure they are planted in an area where you can enjoy their gorgeous flowers. Herbaceous and intersectional varieties should be planted in a spot with at least five to six hours of full sun per day. However, plants that produce single and anemone flower forms may benefit from some afternoon sun protection. Furthermore, because they hate wet feet (roots standing in water), ¡°a slope or raised bed is preferable to a very flat site,¡± says Kasha Furman of Cricket Hill Garden. And don¡¯t forget to plan ahead and give tree peonies plenty of room. What type of soil is best for peonies? Some gardeners have success growing them in their native soil, but most experts recommend amending with organic matter before planting. Proper soil preparation will make it so you don¡¯t have to fertilize for the first few years. No matter what, ensure that they have well-drained soil, as they will not do well with soggy roots.

Do not buy!! Not even worth a one star rating.
The box they came in was smashed. Looked like it had been walked on and stomped on. The bulbs were dried up, moldy. They were unrecognizable as to what they were with no information in the box. Do not buy these!

Don’t buy!
I purchased them July of 2020 and planted them anyway although they looked really dry and dead roots. Not even sure if these are really peonies because there was no label on them. They refunded me my money and told me to keep roots. Seven months later, 4 out of six survived and thriving slowly. If I could give zero stars, I would due to false and misleading information.

Waste of Money, Don't buy!
I should have read the reviews before ordering, received dried, smashed mulch looking items. I am not sure if those are even called dried sticks. Very disappointed with the order and waste of money. I was so desperate and love peonies in general. Learnt a lesson to never buy these online. Unable to digest I poured money ordering 2 sets. Not even worth for a 1 star.
