Heart engaging and thought-provoking
Some really wonderful stories I read aloud to my sons 7 to 9 years of age. It provokes a lots of questions from young ones and and the deft weaving of the tales really kept their attention despite the settings being from a long bygone era the beating heart and leading lights of these tales transcend time and circumstance ~ And Marjoram DEI Gloriam

Difficult to follow
This book didn't work for us. We stopped after the first few stories because I felt like they were just going over my daughter's head. She is 7 and we read chapter books aloud regularly (like The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe for example) so her attention span and vocabulary are not lacking. I just felt that these stories were missing the mark for us because the words, circumstances and messages were heavily dependent on specific details of the setting or time on which they were written and it was very hard to explain the details of the story to my daughter in a way she could relate to. To be honest there were a few times that I was confused as to what was going on. For the purpose of teaching and reading enjoyment, I am going to try to find more updated stories to read together.

Good reading for 6-9 year-old
This book includes 12 different stories for kids between 6-9 years-old. The tales are examples of children living their catholic faith in a daily life. For parents, the book gives a great opportunity to read along with their kids and talk about the faith together. I read it with my boy each night and we discussed all the stories individually, having fun learning and talking about them. In general, I liked all the stories but one. I am looking forward to get another book from the author, Caryll Houselander.

good old-fashioned Catholic wit and adventure.
These stories are quaint and certainly hearken back to a different world, when Catholic devotions and observances more deeply permeated the Catholic culture in the West. It's nice to have stories that are explicitly about Saints or the Bible that nevertheless mention religion, faith, and things like not wanting to ruin one's church clothes not the way to mass.fun to read to the kids (mine are 4 and 2).

Try it, you will like it.
I was pleasantly surprised by the depth these stories reached in me. Several times I felt tears springing to my eyes. You will be happy to read these to your children, and after they have fallen asleep, you will likely find yourself curled up reading the rest of the book.

Powerful
Powerful. Each short story in the book is masterfully written. (It is much easier to write a novel than a short story, I think.)The "moral of the story" hits right at the climax and is deeply moving.Adults and children of devout Catholic households will love this book.
