Sunshine: A Screenplay

A Masterpiece
Alex Garland is a genius. I love his screenplays. They are such an easy read.It bugged me out a bit at first that this wasn't written in Courier New, but I got over it in a reasonable amount of time and it started to flow like anything else.

NOT A MOVIE ADAPTATION.....it's a movie script, word for word, movement to movement
Actually, I gave this as a gift to a friend, who is a serious Sunshine fan. He said it wasn't what he expected it to be but, that said, he enjoyed getting it so he'll have a basis for writing a script for screen. Because that's what it is.....it's a straight on script for the movie Sunshine and it ISN'T an adaptation of the movie turned into a book OF the movie....it's a movie script, word for word, movement to movement, blocking spots on the stage set, and the whole nine yards.SO, if you are hoping for a movie adaption of the story turned into a book, steer clear. But if you want to read a movie script and maybe read along the next time you watch the movie, this is what you are looking for!

Loved the film
Loved the film, great to get the screenplay - had been hoping it was a novel, rather than the lines, but sometimes life is what it is and as a screenplay is 5star. Many thanks, Georgia.

Sunshine Screenplay by Alex Garland
I really like Alex Garland and his writing. I feel he has a fresh and modern view of the world which lends very well to his writing. Some storyboards and some writer insights in the prologue make this worth a buy, especially if used. You can't find this screenplay online, so if you're interested just go ahead and buy it.

Five Stars
It doesn't look like a script. It doesn't have "Fade In" or "Fade Out"

Amazingly visionary

Just missed the strict script format (scene numbers...)
Muy buen libro, con detalles adicionales de la película. Lo único que extrañé fue el formato estricto de guión, por ejemplo, la numeración de las escenas. Por lo demás, muy bueno. Lo recomiendo.

Great
Great movie that follows story line. Music is the real reason that I like the movie. The soundtrack is just outstanding.

Great book, great film
Sunshine is a triumph of Sci-Fi filmmaking and the screenplay is a great read. It's great fun to see how the original screenplay differs from the Danny Boyle film and the book gives some extra background information that was missing from the film (I particularly like the subtle little parts like Searle finding a novel written in Chinese aboard Icarus one which was left open on a bunk)The only disapointing aspect of the film for me was a lack of detailed explanation as to what happened to the crew of Icarus one and although that is still not throughly explained in the book it does add more detail to that aspect of the story. It seems the filmakers made very few changes from the original screenplay but they did make some, sometimes for better sometimes for worse.Overall very good and a 'must read' for fans of the film

Complements the film just fine
I'm a HUGE fan of the film, have watched it several times and know all the lines word-for-word. I wanted more from the book, so was initially disappointed to find a screenplay, but have nevertheless enjoyed reliving the story on paper. The images in the film are outstanding, and the imagery of the sun in the book is equally as stunning "It never coalesces. It's something we can't quite comprehend. Too much power, too massive, too ancient." I'm a scientist, too, and love science fiction that WORKS with what I understand about nature. Like "Breaking Bad" is pretty much spot on with the Chemistry, "Sunshine" is, to me, like a fascinating documentary about a star. I've been inspired to find out more about our Sun since watching the film, since it's "infinite variables" are so intriguing....

Lightweight but does the job
As the item description doesn't make this clear, it's worth mentioning that this is the screenplay, not a novelisation of the film. It's accompanied by an interesting introduction by Alex Garland, and followed by a brief selection of storyboards and concept sketches (maybe a dozen pages in all) in black and white. It's nice to see what changes were made between this version of the script and shooting, and it provides an insight into the intended symbolism of the piece, but it may be worth waiting for a more comprehensive treatment. A coffee table book like The Art of the Matrix is a bit much to hope for, but it would be a nice complement to a film which depends so heavily on amazing images.

This is great...if it were what I wanted
I had to rate the book with 5 stars as per se it is great. This book is the movie script and as far as its reading I am enjoying it very much...I just wasn't expecting it when i bought it. As for "Alien" and other sci-fi books which have been made into a movie, I thought "Sunshine" was actually a piece of narrative, a novel. The fact that it isn't WAS NOT SPECIFYED ANYWHERE IN THE DESCRIPTION!!! Luckily I do voicing over and acting so I can actually read the book and have good fun, however IT WOULD BE MORE CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTATED IF THE PUBLISHER WOULD DESCRIBE ON AMAZON THAT "SUNSHINE" IS A SCREENPLAY!

It's a Screenplay - not what I expected!
When this first I arrived, I was somewhat disappointed to discover it was a screenplay, not a novel. I had hoped to read the novel of what appears to be a very interesting movie playing at the theatres at the moment. However, I wasn't disappointed in the actual storyline. As a screenplay it captures the reader from the first moment and we can actually picture the story as it progresses. I think it will make a good sci-fi movie - one that I will watch when it comes out on DVD - probably better on the big screen though. I recommend this if you like sci-fi but with the reservation that it is a screenplay and a very easy read. It took me less than an hour to finish it.
