Works for Short Dogs but...
I have a 25lb terrier mix with ~22in girth ~ 16in tall. I ordered the X-small based on the Ruffwear website's product specs. My dog was between a small and an x-small and Ruffwear suggested purchasing the smaller size when between sizes. The chest strap just barely fits. It is adjusted to the max length but it works. I can comfortably get two fingers under the strap. The bags on this pack are larger than I expected. I guess I thought that with a smaller girth they would also have smaller bags but the bags are the same size as the bags on the larger sizes. When they are empty, the bags are a bit droopy. They don't touch the ground but they do hang lower than my dog's undercarriage, hitting her at about mid leg which makes her a bit of a noisy hiker (lots of bag rattling noise). If you are considering buying this pack for your dog, I would suggest finding a store that carries them and trying the bag on your dog. Most stores don't carry the smaller sizes but you will be able to see how the side bags work for your dog's leg height, just a thought.I have taken my dog out for several short hikes, our longest to-date 6 miles with some elevation change. There were no issues with chaffing or hot spots. The pack did not interfere with my dog's pace or agility. She did have some issues maneuvering with the back in tight rocky places because she is low to the ground and the bags rubbed on the rocks as she went through. She adjusted and made it out but I will have to keep an eye on her in the rocky sections. The pack has a handle on the top which is great for helping your dog out of tight spots. I haven't had to use it for that yet but the handle also comes in handy when you need to control of your dog while being passed on a trail (my pup is still a bit freaked by mountain bikes). The leash connection is also well placed and seems very durable. This pack was expensive (almost as much as my pack) but the quality is fantastic. I can see this bag lasting a very long time. It is great for carrying a collapsible bowl, water bottle, and dog first aid kit. Happy hiking!

Well-constructed, useful
I have used this pack on my German Shepherd (57lbs) several times. She can run with it and the straps do not bother her skin. Fits very well and stays on balanced with equal weight on both sides. The pouches are single pocket (no inside zipper pockets) and that is just fine with me. It has a few different loops on top to attach a leash. The handle is useful to give her a helping hand when climbing. The only caveat is that the pack is one unit, meaning one cannot remove the pack from the harness to rest in the middle of the hike.

I'm in love!
I love this pack! The color is just like the picture. It's fits very well! I have a 35lb border collie mix (not sure what's he's mixed with). I used the chart on ruffwear.com (located on the product page) to make sure I had the right size. At 26ish inches (Jack didn't want to sit still for measuring) I went with the small, and it's a perfect fit.Pros:- Adjusting was a breeze (even if getting Jack to sit still wasn't)- Pack seems very roomy. Size to pack-room ratio seems proportional- Fits snugly and doesn't slide about (A problem a lot of people experienced with MOST other packs I read reviews for)- The leash clasp on the back was a deal maker. Others don't have it and it REALLY is invaluable for those of us who don't clasp leashes to collars. (Spazzy McBorder Collie needs a harness so I can control him better heehee)Cons:- Even at the discounted price I got mine, it's damn expensive but it's damn quality so I'm not marking off any stars.- It really is a shame this pack didn't come with collapsible water bottles like the palisades pack by the same company, but they can always be bought elsewhere *cough* Platy Soft Bottle with Closure Cap *cough*It's really exactly what I was looking for. In the coming years, I'm sure I'll find it to be even more worth the exorbitant cost.

Well designed and rugged.
I bought this pack for my trail dog Tucker, a few weeks back. We did a 10 mile test hike a few days ago, and found it trail worthy in every way. Tucker is a Tennessee Ridge Runner, (Lab/Shepherd mix) in the 50+lb range. We bought a medium in size, and found that after adjusting it per directions provided, it was the perfect size and fit, not slipping or moving around during the hike. We hiked on old logging and hunting trails, climbing over rocks and I even let him take off through thick brush. I used the leash hold attachment on the top of the backpack and found it stable and did not pull the pack one way or another that it might shift his load as he sniffed from one side of the trail to the other. I loaded the pack with two 25oz stainless water bottles, and his collapsible dog bowls separated and balanced, one to each side. Tucker did not seem to pay any attention to having a pack on his back during the leash or unleashed hiking experience. The pack seems well designed, rugged, fit well and did not make the dog uncomfortable at any time on the trail. I would recommend this for day hikes or overnight outdoor adventures with your dog without reservation. We are gearing up and training for our Cumberland Trail hike this spring and this seems to be the right dog backpack for us.

works great for active dog
We adopted a 7yr old veszla a year ago and we worried about getting this bread enough exercise. While reading a book from cesar he suggested getting your dog a pack and putting 10% of there body weight in it. I bought this one and am really happy with it. My dog carries 5 pounds of sand on each side. He didn't care for the pack at first (peed on it twice) but after a month of so it didn't bother him anymore. It fit great from day one and still does even after being washed a few times. It's easy to put on and easy to take the sand bags out of each side when i put it on him and take it off. It's been about a year and 3 months that i've been using it and its been holding up great and we use it everyday. I have never hiked with him but i think it would work out great for that also. We only use it while walking in our neighborhood. I tried running with him once while he was wearing his pack and he did not like that. I would buy this product again and recommend it to others.

(Werde berichten ;) ! )Bis jetzt sind wir super zufrieden :)
