He took the hemlock, washed it down with a skein of Bolivian marching powder and walked bravely into that good night.I liked this.

You know when you see a stand-up do a bit about something and the premise just doesn’t seem to plausibility fit the comic? Doug Stanhope doesn’t have much a problem with that. His contention is it’s only funny in real-life if you actually do it, and it comes through. His act is based much upon his personal experiences and not funny-bits written by someone else for him to tell. Stanhope’s act is not one for the kids or those adults who feel uncomfortable with someone poking fun at ideas they may personally believe in or value, but very funny for fans of social commentary and dark humor. Stanhope’s conversational style is a successful mix of the boozy Ron White, meeting the frustration of Lewis Black, and edginess of the late Bill Hicks, all underpinned with authenticity.

In San Francisco, this incredibly funny, truthful, and soulful guy refused the used necktie I tried to give him. That's why I rate this performance only 5 stars, instead of the 8 stars it deserves.

We all like to hear that other people's opinions and beliefs reflect our outlook. Validation feels good. Think Hitler Youth members, ingesting Nazi propaganda. I don't know how I missed Doug Stanhope in the many years I've been watching stand up comedy, but I couldn't have found him at a better time. Emergency surgery on my eye, week in hospital, get home and Mom dies that night. Had to use ears more, eyes less. Made me crazy. Drugs helped. This man is hysterically funny! He may be too hard to take for the faint of heart, or religious types. Filthy language, but wtf? Words. Stupid folks and abolitionists will hate his act. Witty, intelligent free thinkers will LOVE him. Go find all his other shows too. Doug, you made an awful, scary, sad, and painful bearable. TYVM.

Greatest comic working today. If you left anything besides a 5 star review, then Doug isn't for you anyway. He isn't for everybody, but he's not trying to be. After all, Doug Stanhope comedy is like super hairy girl porn. Not everyone is into it, but those of us who are will go to great lengths to watch it. Hell of a guy too.

If you're going to watch Stanhope, be sure he will say at least ONE thing that will rub you the wrong way. Few comics have ever tackled so many disturbingly controversial topics and still come out shining on the other side of our collective moral sewage. He is not afraid to advocate for abortion, calling STD's battle scars and calling BS on anyone that heralds a cause but is then too busy with their own meisms to worry that they have to share the country and the world with other people. To me, the mark of an outstanding comedian is to prompt you to WANT to buy them a beer. In the case of Stanhope, I have feelings similar to those I had with Bill Hicks and would gladly buy them a beer, a shot, an eight ball and a $30 hooker just to see what else will happen. Here's hoping his mix of anger, cigarettes, drugs and alcohol don't cause an early departure.

By far one of the best stand up videos I've ever seen. Doug telling New Yorkers like it is, this is a raw, edgy, good time. Not for the weak at heart or easily offended, when this rollercoaster ride starts there is no stopping until it's over. Stanhope 2020.

Whilst watching several comedians on YouTube I happened upon Doug Stanhope - whom I had never heard of before. He was 'awesome' ! I mean the things he said really resonated with the humdrum, gruesome, suicidal, monotonous, depressing, abominable existence of my life. This is the antidote to feeling you don't 'fit in'. If all else fails watch this.....no, watch it anyway - you'll feel better. Society has crumbled and fallen into a pit of non-thinking robots and it's wrong. I refuse to kowtow to 'the rules' and get drawn into a death-march to hell. Don't depress my depression with your ever increasing prescriptions for eternal boredom.Here, Stanhope shows us that thinking is good, it's creative and in the deep dark corners of your mind it's where the imagination lies. If you want to stand out then stand up for yourself. Recently I was told to stop thinking and just 'do it'.....wow, now that is dumb ! Stanhope may not be the answer to everyones ills and some may question his beliefs but I like him, he's sharp and witty and has been there and done it. He rages against the mediocre, boring, fashionable comedians out there and I for one love that.

Initially, Doug Stanhope's stand-up routine seemed enlightening and exciting. But it then took a nosedive into the very nasty, which made one feel off after. He depends too much on his alcohol onstage, which is affecting his judgement. In the end, more an expression of self-loathing than entertainment. His earlier 'Deadbeat' show was better.

If you're a fan of Doug Stanhope generally then you'll love this. Talks about a lot of controversial topics such as abortions and anti-semitic accusations against his act... And then makes great humour from it. Well worth buying.

Fact: The world needs Stanhope more than Stanhope needs the world!Collect his every word before he throws up his hands in frustration and walks off the stage.Just brilliant!
