Emphasizes the most important pieces most others skip over
Having worked with clients at Youtube for years, the most obvious and overlooked part of a campaign is the content itself. In this guide however, the author goes into great depth on the importance of content and how go about creating the kind of videos audiences want to watch. It is an excellent resource from an insider that can help anyone looking to create the most effective and efficient way to market to millennials.

From a four year Google veteran comes much experience to assist the YouTube newbie.
If we return to the dark unenlightened days of the 1990s and earlier, there were those who marketed a product and those who marketed themselves. The former had a wide range of advertising possibilities from billboards to newspaper ads to TV commercials. The latter had few options beyond writing a print column with the hopes of being picked up by a syndicate. Public Access cable was an option but few were interested in being on it, and even fewer were watching it.Now we live in the future, when a single individual can market him or herself in any of multiple imaginable ways, YouTube being one such approach. "Hey, I'm thoughtful and funny and have things to say that might interest you," they say, and THEY are in abundance. So when thinking about YouTube marketing, the first question on my mind is, "marketing what?" Are we talking about how to market my company's superb line of office file cabinet cleaning systems, or are we talking about how to market my provocative series of insightful videos pertaining to the relationship between Shakespeare, Science Fiction of the 1960s, and Stranger Things?I found the text most fitting to a company that has a product, or line of products, rather than to an individual hoping to launch an online presence that will eventually lead to fame, fortune, or both. But in truth, the process and techniques underlying the marketing approach will work in either case, needing fine-tuning that is specific for the purpose beyond the starting points provided within the text. So get your whiteboard ready, and start exploring the back-end of YouTube. One little conflict of interest should be noted: the author is obviously promoting his own skill and knowledge regarding YouTube. He worked formerly as a YouTube Sector Sales Lead while at Google (the parent company of YouTube). As such, he brings to the table such bias and beliefs an individual with that background might have, while simultaneously bringing wisdom and experience that such an individual might also have. I think the author should have told us this in the text, but I suppose the info is on the back cover of the book so it didn't take too much sleuthing to figure out the connection.

Very accessible and informative
The thing that surprised me most about "YouTube Marketing For Dummies" by Will Eagle was how fast a read that it was. I think I was able to go through it over the weekend plus a day. Why that surprised me was because it is loaded with information. Mr Eagle doesn't shortchange on information yet I never felt overwhelmed by it. Each piece on how to utilize Youtube's functionality for business/marketing is well explained but doesn't overload so it is well paced. I thought everything that was needed is contained in the book from deciding on what type of information will be presented to managing expectations to how to create the presentation to maintaining channel and/or growing audience. The only part that I was a little less enthused about is such a minor thing that I'm not sure it is worth mentioning but I will anyway and the last section has a list of the Youtube successes like pewdiepie (spelling?) and the Paul brothers (Logan and Jake). All listed are of the same age group and it would have been nice to see a wider age range but that's a quibble on my part and it is a really short section at the end and can be ignored. The main part of the book is really good and if someone is interested in getting into Youtube's platform, this is a good book to start with.

Good for beginners, experienced YouTubers may want more specifics
This is a good book for beginners. There's nothing that jumped out at me that makes it different from other YouTube books out there. I had hoped since the title specifically said Marketing that the book would get more in depth about reading YouTube stats and analyzing the success (or not) of a video. There is a chapter on Metrics but it is very basic on how to read the reports, and not so much as to what to do if your reports are not showing the performance you desire. It contains a good amount of basic business concepts (like knowing your audience) and also a chapter on creating video .... all good for a newbie. But it didn't tell me how to research the most popular YouTube audiences or how to analyze why a competitor video did well on YouTube, so I could mimic the techniques. There's a chapter on Popular Youtubers but the small summary paragraphs don't really say what was the core reason for their success. The images are almost all too small to read due to the typical For Dummies format of having huge margins. The layout designer could've rotated the images and made them full page to read the graphs and fine print of Internet Screenshots. This is one of my biggest gripes. It's still a decent book if you've no YouTube experience. Those with channels will also find some tips here and there, as with all books -- there is always something inside you don't know. If you don't own a YouTube book already, this is a great place to start. If you already own books or have read a lot online, this may not be the best fit.

Quick Reviews!
Before buying this, be aware that this is not great if you want to simply learn YouTube basics and isn't the best tool for getting ideas on how to set up your vlogging or gaming channel - this is YouTube Marketing for dummies and as such is catered more towards existing or new businesses which want to harness the power of YouTube for advertising purposes or to drive traffic towards your product. Having said that, there is a plethora of easy to digest advice here for people who are new to the world of marketing, or how to use YouTube to your advantage - everything from the types of ad campaigns which already exist, to managing your content, creating your strategy, and gathering and reviewing metrics and data. All boring stuff, but beneficial for this world. There are plenty of real life examples of successes and failures, and the information is delivered in a bite size manner so that you can dip in and out whenever you need to. My girls have wanted to make their own channel for a while so I have used this as a flood opportunity to giving them some basics on business and existing in the entertainment business - knowing your audience, checking out trends, and working hard while enjoying yourself. These points are covered too, but more as an aside to the core focus of spreading the word about whatever you're trying to sell.

If you're a serious YouTuber, understand this
I'm not a marketer, I'm a YouTuber - or so I thought. As it happens, if you have a YouTube channel, from which you hope or expect to make money, then this book tells you just about everything you need to know. For example, it emphasises how you really need to use the Analytics part of the toolset Google gives you (something I am woefully inadequate at, but will now improve upon) and shows how you can reach out to your audience. From the other side of the wall, that of a marketer hoping to use YouTube as a platform to market and advertise your product or services it goes into some detail too. Here, you don't create the video itself (although you can) but focus on getting your marketing message across to your potential customers, including how to be discoverable, using the video as a vehicle to achieving that. All in all, if you use YouTube to market anything, even as a creator who is sponsored by a company who needs a 'shout out', then this book is worth reading. The paper is like a newspaper but thicker, so it doesn't shine, which is great, but it means the pictures, photos and other illustrations are all black and white which makes the page quite dull. Colour would improve the appeal and readability of the book.I don't think any marketer will come away from this book without getting something out of it.
