Not what I expected
I commend the author for producing a thick tome such as this on the world’s most beautiful flower, but overall I found it disappointing. I was looking for a book that would focus on the history of the rose in art and culture, but Potter’s perspective gives only thin coverage of that aspect. For a book of such length, there are few illustrations (most of them botanical paintings) and page after page of dense text regarding the horticultural aspects. This book is more geared to the serious botanist or rose grower, and not someone who wants an engaging and aesthetic trip through history. So I am still looking.

Good content.
Fascinating and excellent book content. Lovely color plates. Enjoyable read. Dishonest seller—BeeMedia. Listed as very good condition but it arrived and the book was falling apart. Cover/spine not connected to pages. Dust jacket ripped in multiple place, some taped together but others just torn. Random loose papers stuck in the book. I would rate this as very poor condition.

Excelente libro sobre el simbolismo histórico de las rosas
El libro es excelente, trata sobre el simbolismo y significado histórico de las rosas, desde la antigüedad hasta nuestros días, así como un poco de la botánica de sus variedades. El libro físicamente venía impecable, limpio y con todas sus hojas, solo venía un pequeño desgaste en las esquinas de las tapas.

A fascinating book. Now, after reading this, I see references to roses in other books I'm reading, most recently a biography of Wagner.

For every lover of Roses.
I purchased this for my wife - she's into roses which is great as they bring life to the garden and happiness to the vase. if you have a "rose nut" at home, get them a copy of this - it's great.

A detailed account of all aspects of the rose
A very well researched account of the rose in all its aspects, which must make it the bible of roses. Plenty of illustrations making this a well produced and attractive book.

A book to sink into
This is a joyful pleasure. Scholarly, well written and enlightening, it tells of the rose in history and culture. Highly recommended by the two of us at home.

I was disappointed with the state of the dust cover
I was disappointed with the state of the dust cover. It was badly marked and torn and the year 2017 was written on the face of the dust cover.
