Can someone tell me if Lucy Calkins ever taught in a real life classroom? Reading her verbose units of study with all the pretentious language, it is like she was never in a classroom setting other than for her set-up videos. I find this program full of flaws in a real world setting. As a creative teacher, I can no longer read and expose my students to the scripted condescending instruction. After 20 years of teaching, I can instruct reading better than this, and in a MUCH more engaging way. My students deserve better. If I get fired than it will be worth it for taking a stand against canned programs such as these where school districts drink the Kool-aid and make the Lucys of the world rich and teachers on the front lines continue to work an incredibly hard job for peanuts. If you are a creative teacher, you will hate this program. If you are a new teacher with no clue or desire to make learning super engaging, then you will love this program and travel to NYC to get a selfie taken with Lucy.
