Easy to use independently!
My 1st grade son uses this handwriting book and it’s a great way for him to begin his school day. It’s easy to follow so he can open it up and do it independently. I love how it incorporates scripture!

Worked for my anti-handwriting 5-year old
My 5-year old son is capable of writing short sentences but is a fan of handwriting by any means. He loves scripture and was motivated by the fact that he can create something to give to someone else. He was able to write his first verse as a gift for his grandmother's birthday. He was do proud, and she was blown away. That's a great reason for handwriting! This makes handwriting more enjoyable for the both of us! I love how it reinforces scripture memorization as well. Two thumbs up!

Awesome handwriting program
My older kids alluded ARFH and when my youngest saw this in the mail she was jumping up and down with joy! My four older kids have lovely handwriting because of this program. And the sheets they got to do at the end of the week were a treasure. I love that they are hiding God’s word in their heart as they learn how to print and do cursive. I’m excited for my baby to use this program too!

This level teaches manuscript.
I’ve used this brand with many kids and enjoyed using the same brand myself as a home schooled child. This one I returned only because I accidentally bought the one that taught manuscript and I want my child this time to learn using cursive instead. Absolutely my mistake alone.

Excellent
A Reason for Handwriting is an excellent program. One that both encourages the child, and can be uplifting for others. It teaches the child to form the letters correctly. Which, of course, is the point of the program. However, it does not end there. It also teaches the child important Scriptures and then encourages the child to write the verses, using his/her best handwriting, and send the verses to someone. This curriculum is doing more than educating the mind, it is trying to reach the heart and spirit of the child.

My child loves doing handwriting!
Love that there are daily lessons marked out and then at the end of the week we can write out a bible verse and mail it to a friend or family member. So far my child loves doing handwriting because of this. He also loves coloring the verse page before we mail it (and he’s never been one who likes to color- double bonus!).

Improvements already
My 5 year old daughter is using this book while her 7 year old brother is using book B, both starting the program this year. We have already seen great improvement in both children's writing and my daughter has only completed the first 9 practice lessons! I will say though that the practice lessons in the beginning of the book are to long. When I realized this I cut the lessons in half and they are much easier for her to complete in a timely fashion. Also I think there are way to many practice lessons, so I have let her start decorating border sheets (explained below) to fill in and give away. Maybe if her brother wasn't doing this already in book B then we would have waited, but she was so excited to do it like him and I bought an extra book of sheets anyway. The book starts with 30 practice lesson then takes the student through a focus Bible verse practicing a little bit 4 days a week the 5th day decorating a border sheet then using your best handwriting write the verse on the border sheet. Once complete give it away to some one. They are having fun giving their work away to friends and family! By the way my son is passed the practice lessons (there are less practice lessons) in book B and on week 2 of regular lessons and has majorly improved his hand writing and has almost stopped writing in all capital letters. Yah! I am so glad that I am starting my daughter in book A so that I do not have to fight the same battles with her as I did with my son. I would have given this book 5 stars, but at a beginner level the first 30 practice lessons are too long and should have been cut in half, but this is easy enough for you to do yourself. Also some little arrows and a brief directions for the strokes involved in completion of the letter would make this book something the student could do more of on their own. BUT We are really enjoying giving the border pages with the Bible verses away to people. I think that makes this program much more fun and practical than filling out a bunch of worksheets!
