Great addition to history unit
We are studying beginning American history this semester. This book was a great addition to help bring history to life. Overall, my kids (ages 6,7, and 9) really seemed to enjoy this book. There were a few areas where they lost interest, but we enjoyed it enough to buy the second book in the series.

Perfect introduction to settling Jamestown for kids
Arriving in a New World can be scary and exciting. Our Strange New Land is the fictionalized diary of a nine-year-old colonist, covering August to October 1609 (ending just before the Starving Time). The story is mostly lighthearted, though several deaths and problems with the Natives are mentioned. It is perfect for late elementary age kids to get an idea of what life was like as an early settler in Jamestown.

Great for homeschoolers!!!
My son is studying Jamestown and this book series is fantastic. We so enjoyed reading all three of the books in the series. The books were an excellent compliment to his curriculum and really made Jamestown come to life for a 9 year old living in this century. Relatable, enjoyable and easy to read. Would definitely recommend to anyone teaching on life in the early colonies.

Great condition
As expected, great book although I appreciate the older editions being combined into one book, better value for the money.

The first people from Europe that came to America.
The book although fiction has a lot of history of the first Europeans who came to America. It is written as a diary of a little girl named Elizabeth who came to Jamestown.

Settlement times were tough times!
The first book of two (I have heard there may be a third, but cannot find it. This is a great settler times story of the trip ocross the sea and everything that follows in the first year before the second book takes over. Great for understanding how things were "back then". The trials and tribulations are not sugar-coated, and this is a good read for your 3rd/4th grader.

Good, but a little short.
Was a great introduction into children's lives in Colonial America. Wish all three volumes of this series would come in one book, but each was well written for the age group and had enough information to keep interesting.

Disappointed
Disappointing, thought it would give more of the history of Jamestown...instead its in diary form from a young girl.
