Vater 5B Nylon Tip Hickory Drum Sticks, Pair

Been using the Promark Active Grip 5b for a while now, but find that it can get too sticky and on some sticks the grip application seemed to come off on my hands (real sticky when that happens).The Vaters are a perfect balance between grip and slip for me and I wanted to try a Nylon tip (as the Promark beads were chipping too soon).And the price is so much cheaper than most other name brand sticks!

I found these sticks are weighted well and hold up to a beating for quite a while. They aren't overly heavy and are thick enough to feel good and balanced in the hand.My only gripe is these things chip away into saw dust like noone's business. I get that they're wood and all sticks do this but good lord...

For practicing

I bought a four pack of these at Guitar Center maybe five or six years ago. It wasn't until now that I needed to replace them, and that wasn't because any of them actually broke (unlike more expensive brands I've used.) It was because they were still playable but very worn out after years of use. They feel great. They play great, and the price is very affordable. What more can you ask for in a stick? I've only played the 5BN model so I can't vouch for the quality of others, but these have served me EXTREMELY well.

The tips are too heavy

I really like the balance & feel & playability of these sticks that “dance In my hands.”You can look up specs on sticks for length & diameter but what is very important is the taper from the shoulder to the neck.If that is thicker, the stick will feel weighted more to the tip & if that is thinner, the stick will feel weighted more to the middle or back end.Personal preference.I bought 1 pair for $6.95 from Amazon & now that I tried these compared to other 5B sticks I my collection, I wish to buy many more. However, the Amazon price jumped to $7.95. I will wait to see if Amazon drops the price back to $6.95 & if they do, buy at least 1 dozen more.

I like these drum sticks. I got them for my e-drum. I like the nylon tips and overall feel of these.

After using Vic Firth drumsticks for many years, although I appreciated that brand a lot, I was breaking sticks way too often, grew tired of that and started shopping for other brands, in hopes to find more durable ones. I tried Ahead aluminum sticks and didn't like them (and they break too). After finding out that a hard hitter like Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers was using Vater sticks, I decided to try them out, and never looked back since.These sticks are very sturdy and can take a lot of beating. I still break some, but it has become something far less frequent than before. It took me some time to get used to their heavier weight, but since I did, I see no reason why I would switch brands again.

Well balanced, feel good, long lasting.
