Artillery Hell: The Employment of Artillery at Antietam Volume 38 (Texas a & M University Military History Series)

Detailed artillery data
Artillery Hell lists the types of cannons used in each battery that fought at Antietam. There are some Confederate artillery units where the types of cannons are not known. Other general data about the cannon types is included. The book lists the accomplishments of the artillery units of both combatants. The book has exactly the kind of data that I hoped for.

This is a fact filled work for detail oriented readers
I have recently read 2 books on the Artillery @ Gettysburg. This work is shorter because it covers 1 not 3 days. It contains the information I was seeking with respect to what guns were used ,which unit used them, how the guns functioned and were served , but lacks detailed maps locating the batteries position(s). The photos are nice (if one had not visited, or does not remember the battlefield) but I like maps. The after action reprts discribing the action in the Battery comanders own words however, are a nice feature

Not as good as I'd hoped
This book consisted of a lot of factual information. It was really a little too much history for me.
