I Have More Souls Than One (Penguin Modern)

I cannot begin to tell you how this book took a seat inside of me and hasn’t yet gotten up. This is poetry, this is art, this is philosophy, comedy. It’s life.

This is masterpiece. Pessoa at his best. I recommend this gem for anyone who appreciates Pessoa's work.

Little book, smaller than expected

Maybe I didn't pay attention to the listing, but this book is very small. Almost a booklet, really.

I love poetry and have read thousands of poems over my span of 81 years. I looked forward to reading about the Poet Laureate of Lisbon: Pessoa. I thought these poems were dribble. My poetry is better than this. I am hoping the other two books I ordered by Pessoa are of much higher caliber. I have to say that reading I have more souls than one reminded me of Diane Keaton reading her poem in Woody Allen's "Annie Hall.""A little boy caught a butterfly, And said to himself, I must try, To understand my life, And help others, Not just mothers, And fathers, But friends, Strangers too, With eyes of blue, And lips full red and round, But the butterfly didn't make a sound, For he had turned into a caterpillar, By and by."C'Mon, Fernando, this is not poetry that inspires. Maybe I have to try an Alice B. Toklas brownie to appreciate this little book of nada.

A 'new-age mystic' type saw the cover with "soul" in the title and expressed surprise to see me reading a 'spiritual' book. "Souls" are not what you think, either. This little collection should cause a reader to also spend some time with Pessoa and his "Book of Disquiet". I am a bit surprised that it took me so long to meet the greatest poet in all of Portugal. I recommend the Richard Zenith translation.

I know translating poetry can be difficult, but the person who put this book together didnt try at all. Portuguese is my native language and i bought this to gift it to a friend who speaks english. It has both translation mistakes and english grammar mistakes. I know it only costs 2 dollars but it's useless.The verses dont make any sense, so save ur 2 dollars for a coffee or something else ;)

A writer’s dilemma/transgression or trance personified. No in between. At its poetic best. Should be gate-keeping but Poetry is meant to be enjoyed and shared.

A very tiny book. No fault of the amazon people. Just expected more. Delivery had a hitch but Amazon rectified the problem.
