Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper Topwater Fishing Lure

This lure is by far the number one plug used for bass and bluefish. It is well constructed and contains rattles and strong treble hooks.

Works as it should, the only problem is it needs the factory hooks replaced with a better quality hook.

Bought a few 6 & 7 inch of these. The red head and black over chrome 6 inch has been driving the bluefish nuts. The hardware is decent, I haven't changed anything and it works fine, just crush the barbs. The 7 inch ones cast horrible compared to it's little brother. Bluefish stole my last small red head so I'm buying a bunch more.

There's a good reason that this model lure has been popular for so many decades. They catch big striped bass and bluefish as well as any top water lure regardless of price. And yeah, they're cheap to boot. Try varying the speed of your retrieve and and the cadence of pops and jerks. Sometimes slow and gentle works best. Other times you can't reel fast enough of pop too hard.

Feels a little cheap, but does the job

Best for in shore. On a boat casting into the rocks as the tide pulls away and Mr. Striped Bass is fixin’ for chow. Top water keeps it out of the rocks and shore gook. Gook popper-type action. I have frequently had hits the moment it hits the water.But remember: If you want to catch fish, the most important thing to remember is it is way less about the specific bait or lure, and ALL about having hungry fish in the water.

Good lures there 2oz discription is off but you can add weight by drilling small hole and add BBS or lead to it glue gun it back over all great lure catch many hybrids off them along with few blue cats great quality lure

A value plug that can be fished like a splash popper or side to side like a spook. I did not expect the walk the dog side to side action like a spook but it works well. Alot of hits using walk the dog method. Hooks not as high quality as other brands but you can replace the split rings and upgrade the hooks after they rust. I mainly target blues with this lure and if a striper takes it even more benefit. Every angler should have this plug in their bag. I use other more expensive plugs and this plug casts just as well, only just the hook/split ring quality difference. If you lose it, not as painful like a $25 lure...this one works don't pass it by because its a legacy value brand.
