Daniel & Violet
This is the sixth full length historical novel in the Mackenzie series by Jennifer Ashley. It has no cliffhangers, no cheating, and as always an HEA. It is adult themed with a little bit of cussing, violence, and steamy scenes. It is well written, well edited, and packed full of action and adventure. I was NOT paid for this honest review.*Warning!!!! For those of you who have problems with sexual assault and rape as a trigger this book contains a past incident that is relived by a character in this book. You do not go through the initial attack with the character but it is talked and thought in about repeatedly, in detail, throughout the book.*Daniel is the oldest of the second generation of Mackenzie children. He was an adorable, funny, irresistible side character in the past Mackenzie’s books so I am glad to see him get his own HEA. Daniel is fun loving, easy going, handsome, rich, and loves to invent things. He becomes instantly taken with a con artist fortune teller who wants to fleece him out of his money. Violet is serious, desperate, scared, and exhausted. She works as a fortune teller to support herself and her mother. Violet’s past has made her extremely wary of all men, so she doesn’t know what to make of the tall, built, handsome Scotsman who seems to be getting a kick out of her deceiving him. If he would just go away and leave her alone she would be grateful, but Daniel has other ideas.I really liked Daniel’s character in this book. Violet is great to but she has some serious trauma and baggage in her past and present that make her character complicated and uncomfortable to enjoy. I like a great romance novel but when sexual assault is involved its hard to get past, especially when its brought up repeatedly, and kind of makes the romance part icky for me. Hence the four stars instead of five. I just think there could have been a better storyline for Daniel and Violet. Due to the content I would not reread this book, but for those who are not bothered by this particular storyline it was well written and worth the price. Enjoy!

One more Mackenzie marvel
I have loved this series, so the re-emergence of characters from previous instalments is welcomed, although they must be off-putting to readers coming cold to this story. And I disagree with the reviewer who was alienated by Ashley's treatment of Violets's past. Yes, it was violent and oft mentioned, even dwelt on. Indeed, it is the most powerful part of the story and handled unflinchingly, but in an empathetic manner. Violet is a wonderful, courageous heroine, full of flaws and fears but yearning to be light, honest and free. Her mother is a leech who is rightly exposed as lacking the most essential characteristics of a caring parent. The Mackenzies are as plentiful and gorgeous as usual. The H, Daniel, is almost too marvelous to be true, even for a romance. In regard to his relationship with Violet, he shines through almost all of the book. His only failings seem to be that he is rich, indulged and easily able to charm everyone he meets. (Surely one of his previous lovers found him lacking?)This story starts with a bang, accelerates in a satisfying way, but somehow fizzles at the end.It is difficult to understand why the intensity fades towards the finale.Perhaps it is because the ominous warnings by Hart and Ian aren't matched by Daniel's subsequent behaviour?Or because Violet almost seems to be subsumed by the power of his family?Or because Daniel's prediction that they would both be burned by their relationship never materialises? Finally - could someone enumerate a list of the wicked deeds? Certainly the comeuppance for the red-headed man should rank as ruthless, but it is hard to see any others as wicked.Despite these reservations, this is still better than 90% of the romances currently on sale, so it deserves a 4.PS Thanks, thanks to the author for the pricing of this book. She deserves grateful congratulation.

Super disappointed
When Daniel sees Violet first thing he thinks is that she is Ugly?? Or maybe ugly to other people. He describes her in his head with a big nose, long mouth, and chubby?? Im so confused. Since he was 15 he has had numerous lovers. That fact keeps being brought up again and again. So he is the perfect guy: been with stunning woman, could have anyone he wants, loads of money, and he is just perfect. But the poor heroine in the story is ugly, poor, and is super afraid to be intimate since she was attacked at 16...the only thing she has going for her is that she likes mechanics like he does. This book is so boring for the first half too. Im just so disappointed because i loved the first books. I then read Fellows story and hated it and now i hate this one. I already bought the next two so im really hoping they arent as bad...

Daniel winked at her
Daniel Mackenzie is all grown up and gorgeous and accomplished and smart and independently wealthy with residences in various towns. After winning a poker game, Daniel is introduced to the spiritual medium Violet Bastien and quickly discovers her tricks. Instead of exposing her, Daniel finds himself attracted to Violet and is almost killed by her, hunts her across Europe to Marseille (located thanks to his uncle Ian's uncanny ability to uncover hidden facts), takes her on a balloon ride, rescues her from reminders of her past and, finally, all ends well at Lord Cameron's Berkshire horse farm. Jennifer Ashley has a good thing going with the Mackenzie family and as long as we keep reading, she keeps writing .... but it is going downhill fast.

More of the engaging Mackenzies
Rescues, romance & hope for the future mixed with a look at developments in a Victorian era. An enjoyable read that engaged me with the new characters & filled in continuing sagas of the Mackenzie families.

Childish
This was inane & boring. There was no depth of story or characters. A child's fairytale. Constant reiteration of they are so wealthy, powerful, handsome, well built, charming, sexy, understanding, generous, blah blah blah. On top of all that they could win in a fight in spite of ridiculous odds. A 12 yr old could have written it in her sleep - minus the compulsory detailed sex scenes, of course.

So So..
After reading all the other books which were about Daniel's uncles and father, I had high hopes, but for some reason, this didn't grab me like the earlier books..It was almost a DNF but I felt I owed it to the Mackenzies to see it through and finish it I did, and promptly forgot about the plot..I've given 2 stars only because I like Daniel and he is a Mackenzie.
