A Tale of Two Cities (Wordsworth Classics)

Dickens was more of a hardcover man, I suspect, or perhaps loved newsprint -- but this modern mass-market paperback is a perfectly serviceable format to deliver one of the great man's best works.

A really good story, really like this publisher

Let's face it, no one is buying this book unless their 9th grade teacher assigned it - for that reason alone I should have given it one star. But, it's the book my son needed and is as promised. No complaints, except from my son on how boring it is!

I realize Charles Dickens was a great writer and I figured as I have always loved Austin and Bronte it would be educational to read Dickens. The problem I had is its way too slow and boring. Long descriptions of scenes and what people are doing, wearing etc but not much story going on in the now. I do understand this was written in a very different time when the world moved much slower and maybe some may be upset by my writing this of such a great author. I am just being honest. I could only get as far as chapter five. I may try again later but for now I've gone back to reading my favorite authors.

I'm not sure if this is a good book but it is mandatory reading for my daughter and we had little notice so it was a lifesaver because it came on time and was in perfect condition

Excellent novel. Up there on the all-time best list. Wordsworth books are always cheap and well compiled too.

I’m working my way through Charles Dickens books, this involves characters around the time of the French Revolution. It’s a good read if you like CD.

I will read and but it’s a good deal

This is one of the most moving and impacting novels I have read in my entire life!!! I finished the book yesterday and I still haven't been able to start a new one. I am speechless and totally overwhelmed by the great recital of genius Dickens gives in this work! In A TALE OF TWO CITIES, Dickens is like magician who mixes his various ingredients in a cauldron, stirs them slowly, from the beginning of the novel until the FIRE of the French Revolution gives life to them and meaning, and converts them into a very delicious and warm broth of which the reader keeps partking without being able to put it apart. At the end of the novel, this broth becomes even better because the reader sheds his/her own tears in this broth. The very last part of the novel reaches the zenith of literary quality and emotional wealth. In this way, this novel becomes absolutely unforgettable!One day, we may forget the technical details Dickens used when he wrote this work, his parallel structures, repetitions, the amazing metaphors which say so much with so few words, and the habile use of the historical background, BUT we will NEVER forget HOW THIS NOVEL MADE US FEEL when we read it!!! This is really great art, and, undoubtedly, Dickens is one of its greatest masters!

L'état du livre est tout simplement exceptionnel et donne vraiment envie de le lire. Quant au contenu, je ne saurais tarder à m'y plonger tant les critiques sont excellentes. 5 étoiles sans hésiter, d'autant qu'il m'a été livré en seulement 3 jours!
