Planned Obsolescence?
Too bad zero stars isn't a choice. Six years ago when we moved into our apartment we bought three wallmaster units. At the beginning of last summer just after the warranty expired of course the first unit died. The coil leaked so the coolant leaked out. The repair cost and the repair time was such that it made more sense to buy a new unit. I would never have bought another Friedrich but for the fact it has upward facing louvres which is a necessity given that the units need to be installed in cabinetry with vents on top. All other brands have their vents facing directly outward and thus would not work with our cabinetry . At the end of the summer a second unit failed again with a leaking coil. Because it was late in the summer we waited until this year to replace it. Again with the install requirement I was stuck with Friedrich. Last night was our first night with the new unit. The compressor was so noisy and rarely cycled off that I just had to turn it off and open windows so that I could sleep. The service tech knew immediately what was wrong. He told me that vibration problem happens very frequently. He removed several spacers from the compressor mounting which solved the problem. If it's a known issue why doesn't Friedrich fix it? When I asked about what I should expect as a service life he replied older machines seem to last much longer than newer ones. Two units failing within a few months of each other one wonders what design parameters were used by Friedrich. One has only to compare the control panel and remote control between my older machines and the new one. The new controls are obviously made more cheaply. Finally I would say that the thermostats have trouble recognizing the ambient temperature in the room. The temperature has to be significantly higher in the room than the set temperature before the unit kicks on. It should be about two degree rather than 8-10 degrees. My notion is that you should get more than five years out of premium (read pricey) product especially when we live in New York and only use them in July and August. Companies should strive to make their product better. This is not the case here.

things keep breaking...
Edited 2022 and changed to one star because for the prices they charge for these things they should be the most perfect air conditioners in the world. - The new annoyance with this AC unit this year is the remote function stopped working so now I have to climb up on a ladder to turn the AC on and off or adjust anything. And the wifi function never worked either. As the remote checks out, the problem is apparently with a $$$ board inside the unit which I'm not going to have fixed. When the tech installed this unit he said I didn't need to buy a Friedrich as he could have given me an adapter sleeve to install a different brand at a lower price. So fool me twice - no more Friedrichs the next time I need to replace this one, or when I get tired of climbing up and down a ladder.----(I didn't buy this AC from Amazon.)I had to quickly replace a Friedrich AC wall unit that after 10 years started dumping water all over our kitchen floor and the service people told me it they would charge me almost as much to come look at it as to sell me a new one. Plus, I either had to have a new sleeve installed or use the one I had, which only works with Friedrichs. The good thing is it's really quiet and has worked like a charm since we turned it on a couple months ago.The bad thing is it's way up on a wall where the control panel isn't visible. I had hoped to use the app, but the app is a complete joke. No matter how many times I try to set it up it never appears on my network. And it all seems to be about having to create an account on Friedrich's website that has an almost inexhaustible supply of errors to throw up.The people who installed it told me a GE AC would have fit in the same sleeve and that's what the people I talked to should have suggested. He also warned us that the plastic tabs on the cover easily break.I hope this unit last ten years before it goes bad like the old one. The whole thing with the app that doesn't work and the warning about how easily parts will break off doesn't make it sound like it was a good buy. So, three stars.

Maybe the worst designed and worst supported product out there! Poor documentation, and bad WiFi
I am shocked that even now, 3 years into these newer models, that there are significant issues with these units! Everyone that buys one should return them! That will force Friedrich to fix the issues.First, the manual is poor! Nowhere does it tell you that the first time you press the power button, it only turns on the electronics of the unit. You have to press the power button a second time to turn on the AC! I contacted Friedrich and got a poor excuse that the manual "is generic for many models, so this is not mentioned in the manual"! That is a poor excuse and unacceptable!Second, as others mentioned, the WiFi feature does not work. This is not a user issue with a couple of us here, this is an issue KNOWN to the company. It doesn't matter which method you chose, app, website, etc, you cannot get these units to connect via wifi! If you have this issue, it is not your fault, it's Friedrich's, yet they continue to advertise these units as having Wifi capability. If ever a one star review is deserved, it is here!

Cant remotely control the AC. BAD PRODUCT
Absolute garbage. Remote doesn’t work. Companion app doesn’t work. Desktop site for companion app doesn’t work.$1,000 is no small amount of money.I invite the manufacturer to reach out and fix this issue.

Pricey but the only option I had for an easy replacement for Fedders
For the price it's not the best.I bought mine through ABT a little over a year ago and they have had to come out 3 times. Thankfully I paid for their install and warranty so it's on them if anything but the price is way up bc it's the only one that can be an easy replacement for Fedders. For the extra 200-300 buck compared to other in wall AC it's kind of pricey.
