Does the job, but not made to last
My aging hands struggle to use a manual can opener, so I thought I'd give one of these a try. My favorite manual opener is similar - it works by un-crimping the lid...very much just like the Bartelli, but human powered.Takes a few tries to get the hang of it, but once you figure out how to engage the can, it's easy as could be. With Lithium batteries, seems to last a while between battery changes (but then again, four of those lithium batteries cost half what this opener does!). Haven't found a can it won't open yet, but as some reviewers point out, sometimes you might have to pry the top off or let it go around the can twice. The construction quality seems mediocre at best, and I can't imagine it holding up too long. It's not easy to clean...should be a way to just immerse the thing under running water, but I suspect it would never run again if it got wet. There is a slightly higher end product from this same manufacturer that I might try as well, but if anyone stumbles across a really good quality battery powered can opener, please let me know!

Pets Could Safely Eat From Can
Based on one experience, this Bartelli can opener is brilliant. I tried it on a 3-ounce cat food can (only 2-5/8" diameter) made of unusually thick metal that is stubborn to open despite the tab. The opener went around but nothing seemed to be happening and it did not stop by itself, so I gave it another go-around and pressed the button again to stop it. When I dubiously lifted it up, the lid had been amazingly transformed. It could now be reused, fitting neatly inside the original diameter of the can, and not a rough edge to be found on any surface! A pet could eat straight from a Bartelli-cut can without being injured. It outclasses all other can openers I've ever used, and I hope it's as durable as it is elegant. By the way, the packaging was very easy to open (no clamshell battle) and the batteries were super easy to load into the top (no tiny screws to mess with). This tool seems to reflect the famous Italian talent for engineering design, but the country of origin is not stated on the machine, the box, or the paperwork, nor do they have a website. This too bad as I wish I could personally thank the inventor of this genius design.

Purple unit cost less and works like the other colors at any price.
Love it. My second one tho. Note the purple one is a few dollars less than the other colors. Cant imagine why. It is the same performance and quality. The first one, after two years..the cutter wore out. Machine ran great but couldn't cut through. I don't know if it was prematurely worn or if it's the weak link in the otherwise bullet proof performance and quality. I tried to disassemble the worn out unit to sharpen the cutter. Don't even try to open it. (I cut it open.) It was designed to snap together with blind screws and one way snaps. Therefore probably assembled by robots and also sold by other sellers with their brand on it at different prices. If it looks like this style other than the color, they are all made by the same factory.Very good battery life.

A BIG Disappointment...
Here lies the problem with this product:It has completely stopped working!I received the Bartelli Soft Edge Automatic Electric Can Opener in September, 2015.I LOVED it! I had had hand surgery some time ago, and no longer could operate a standard can opener. This great invention (the Bartelli) was really wonderful and made opening cans, so easy and tidy. .It began to malfunction about 3 weeks ago. Since it is battery-operated, I assumed that it needed new batteries... Ichanged the batteries, and it still wasn't working properly. About a week ago, it quit working entirely... Myhusband is now back to opening cans for me with a standard can opener. This product simply has a VERY shortlife-span. 4 months is just not good enough. I intend to contact the supplier (through Amazon) and request areplacement.

No brawn, too bad.
I love this can opener. It's really easy to use one-handed, and it leaves a very nice, smooth edge and the bonus is that you can put the tops back on! As a crafter, this has opened up a whole new can of big beautiful worms, lol. The ONLY reason it didn't get five stars is that it's a real battery hog. I can only open 4 or 5 cans before it poops out on me. So, it goes from my kitchen drawer to my crafting tool box. If it was only set up for an adapter, I'd happy buy one for it! I'm keeping my eye open for a corded model for the kitchen. In the meantime, it's back to the old faithful Swing-Away opener for me.

The Bartelli can opener seems to work fine. It has adequate/good power and leaves a safe
The Bartelli can opener seems to work fine. It has adequate/good power and leaves a safe, non-sharp edge. An important feature is the user can access the batteries by opening the back of the can opener, should they fail. that was a permanent problem with a Toucan opener. It got stuck and you could not get to the batteries because the design did not allow access. I ended up having to throw that one away. The purple color is a fun addition to a boring kitchen drawer of utensils. One feature I would like to see is an automatic cut off when the can opener has finished its job. That is just a little issue if the can opener is durable. Most of these last for a year or so and then fail. They should work for much longer than that.

This is a piece of garbage.
I bought this (larger version) to replace a Toucan that I dropped in water, I tried it a couple of times when I first got it and it worked but just barely. I put it in a drawer for a couple months (I don't use a great deal of canned goods). When went to use it again it only opened about 1/2 way around a can. I have put brand new batteries in it three times now and still will not actually open a can. It tries and fails. I have not been able to open a single can with it since. I have tried it on several completely different products and it just will not do the job it was purchased to do. I contacted the seller but I missed the return window. Too bad for me. Seller did nothing to help me get a product that worked. BEWARE. Very sorry I wasted my money and my time on this (and is is NOT cheap in cost/dollars but it is cheap in quality and functionality. FAIL.
