Looking for a new CD of lost album.
Just looking for a copy of his music as an example of his work for class I teach. Glad I made the purchase.

A great collection of Jarre through the ages
Before I start, has anyone else looked at the cover art and thought "Victim of Thanos"? Also, his next album is called Equinoxe Infinity...It does seem like every few years Jean-Michel Jarre will release a collection of his best music; I think this is his 4th? Still, with 50 years of music to look back on, he has quite a back-catalogue to call upon. There are some tracks that are on this set that have appeared in all the previous versions. Pieces like Oxygene part 4 and Equinoxe part 5 are two such tracks, but please don't get me wrong; they earn their place in this set effortlessly. For me, Oxygene part 4 is the epitome of his music; I still get the hackles down the back of my neck from listening to it today as I did the first time I heard it back in the eighties, when I was a teenager at a roller skating rink, who had to hold himself upright against a railing because the haunting melody captivated me so much. Most of the tracks on here are remastered versions of the originals, but there are a few that have new arrangements. Zoolookologie deserves a mention as it has a particularly fine arrangement with an excellent coda to bring it to a close. As for the choice of tracks, they are for the most part pretty good. There are a few tracks I would have been happy to drop in favour of a different piece. For example I would have been happier to have had Chronologie Part 2 instead of Erosmachine, as the thwapping ruler beat is used so much more effectively in the later piece. Similarly I would have preferred any of the Calypsos to have been used instead of Waiting For Cousteau. But this is down to personal preference, and it wasn't me doing the choosing. One piece I really wish he had included though was Acropolis; other than on some hard to get hold of concert DVDs and on the Orchestral JMJ, this incredible piece of music has not had an album release, and Planet Jarre would have been an ideal place for that. That minor grumble aside, this is still an excellent collection, and has many pieces of music that will have you playing Air Keyboard for hours. Why yes, I do frequently see people giving me strange looks. Why do you ask?

A great retrospective Jarre's 50 years
I am amazed at the negative reviews - one because it didn't contain 5.1 surround sound downloads (which it was never supposed to) and another because it was a re-release of a choice from JMJ's back catalogue - did they not bother reading before buying? This is, then, to be clear, a personally-curated selection of tracks that JMJ feels represent the 4 aspects of his music. Not necessarily what I'd choose, but that's beside the point - I own all of the back catalogue so can easily make my own mix-tape. What is great is to hear the subtle revisions Jarre has made to some of the tracks - Zoolokologie in particular sounds superb - and the new mastering of the tracks is astonishingly good - crystal clear and beautifully balanced; if only some of the 2014-2016 re-issues could have used the same FiDef technology and not been really, really badly mixed by Dave Dadwater (aka David Perreau) on an awful day at the office..The rarities are the same as those issued on a previous rarities release, and to me make the second 2nd CD mainly curios rather than a CD I'd listen to on its own merits, but again, that's personal choice.A great "best of" collection, which just demonstrates how much great music Jarre has produced over the past 50 years.

A mixed bag
JMJ personally selected the tracks on this compilation which were taken from all of his previous albums except Teo & Tea and Geometry of Love which makes it a somewhat incomplete overview of his 50 years career. Instead various rarities and oddities have been included which I would personally rather have been without. Moreover the new remasters sound oddly tinny and bright and lack bass compared to the old remasters which I generally prefer.

Good collection, though some remakes not as good as originals
I've been a fan of Jarre for ages. This is a great value collection for any lover of his style of music. I must confess that I don't like the version of Chronologie 4, nor that the intros of Chronologie 1 and Rendezvous 2 are cut from the versions present in this album. The techno-ified version of Oxygene 8 is fun, though I am a great fan of the original. (Though the solution is to just buy the original Chronologie, Rendez-vous and the Oxygene trilogy.)

Fine collection
Just to warn you, the version of 'Revolutions' is the 'Arabic' version, not the 'Turkish' version with the Ney flute sample. This can not be used due to a court case. But I find it the better version, it is dryer, harsher. It is also the 'single? version' without the introduction. You can still find the Turkish version on a 1988 Dreyfus CD. 837421-2. I salute you.
