the mat is still like new. Living in a hot-dry climate
I basically live at my desk. After TWO YEARS, the mat is still like new. The Logitech G240 mouse pad (pictured) I bought at the same time hasn't held up nearly as well. Living in a hot-dry climate, the mat has never been oily, sticky or slippery. The ends haven't frayed or curled. If anything it has only gotten flatter and more flexible (Maybe it just needs time to be worn in). The area of my desk it protects is in mint condition. That's the most important part. The mat did have a potent tar smell at first. I don't know exactly when it went away, but I can affirm the smell does eventually go away. I definitely recommend this mat, especially for long-term use. I like its firm padding, ruggedness, and the fact that it protects my desk and doesn't slide around unless I mean it to.The one pictured is 17" x 24", on a 29.5" deep desk, in front of a 22" monitor.

Works great.
It is a great product that is why I ordered two of them. They slide a bit if you have a bit of a slippery surface but other that that it works really great and can be written on very well. It also came pretty quickly. It was a bit expensive for what you are getting though.

Excellent desk pad.
The pad came in a large flat box and it laid perfectly flat on my desk. It's an extremely smooth, attractive black pad. I tested it by putting a single piece of paper on it and then writing a few sentences. The handwriting was smooth as could be. Then I removed the paper and examined the pad for any trace of indentation and there was none. This is a really nice desk pad and I'm glad I bought it.

10/10 would buy again
Perfectly fits my new office desk. Writing on a single piece of paper over the pad feels like writing on a pad of paper. It does what I need it to, and it looks professional at a good price. My coworker who also has the same exact desk saw mine and bought one too. I can’t make a better recommendation than that.

Very comfortable padding: my wrists rest comfortably on it
I was hesitant on this first as I had been burned on leather and cardboardish desk mats before but this one perfectly meets my needs both in size and purpose. Very comfortable padding: my wrists rest comfortably on it. Writing is effortless and doesn't feel like you are digging into it. It is also able to "heal" pressure spots too. I noticed when I removed by keyboard there were some unsightly trenches. I tried with my thumb to remove them to no avail. However, an hour later or so they were gone with no evidence they were there. Additionally, I have noticed no curling with the edges or corners either: it stays flat (I like to slide notes on the tops and sides). Also, although I don't use it this way, a computer mouse will glide along this easily. They shipped it very well to with pretty much no chance of damage. This IS the desk pad, you just need to really figure out which size to get.

Desk Protector
This cover works, but kinda overpriced in my estimation. $25 for a piece of relatively thin vinyl.

Not so excellent after all, an update
I bought 2 of these to use as my desktop work surface about 4 years ago. I wanted to protect my desktop and have a good surface for a mouse, keyboard, etc. I've used them heavily over the past 4 years and it's time for replacements. The new ones look exactly like the old ones, so I expect to be set for a few years.Feb 2015, an update: I've since purchased 3 more of these pads and these apparent "new versions" are very disappointing. These 3 exhibit edge curling which doesn't seem to flatten out, with their sharp edges they're very uncomfortable on the forearms to work with. Further, they look like crap on the desks with the edges curled up, like something you might expect with pads purchased from a discount store for $2.The manufacturer also changed the padding on the underside, now it's a hard material and the pads easily slide on the desk surface. These pads have a premium price, the original ones were worth it in my experience. This new style is not worth the cost of shipping, buy something else.

Excellent writing surface
I am a ‘mobile’ lawyer and bring these with to client’s homes and use these for signing estate plan documents. They are great, very glad I bought them.
